β οΈ Te Mata Park to temporarily close due to extreme fire risk β οΈ
Te Mata Park will close to the public from 10pm Friday the 9th of January, due to the extreme fire conditions identified by Hawke's Bay - Fire and Emergency.
All access to Te Mata Park from 10pm Friday the 9th of January until at least 8am Monday the 12th of January is strictly prohibited. Peak House will be closed over this period.
Several factors have combined to significantly increase the risk of fire, including temperatures that are expected to exceed 30 degrees, strong winds, low humidity, and very little rain in many weeks. The temporary closure is a precautionary measure to help protect public safety, Te Mata Park, and neighbouring land during this high-risk period.
Te Mata Park Trust will continue to work with Hastings District Council - Te Kaunihera Δ-Rohe o Heretaunga and Hawkeβs Bay Fire and Emergency to monitor conditions and will advise when the Park is reopened.
We thank everyone in advance for respecting the closure.
