Kiwi Conservation Club- Hawke's Bay

Kiwi Conservation Club- Hawke's Bay Forest & Bird's club for Kiwi kids. Together we learn about, explore, and take action for Aotearoa New Zealand's wild life and wild places.

KCC is an integral part of Forest & Bird. We make a difference for nature through:
●providing fun, compelling, practical opportunities for tamariki and their whānau to connect with nature.
●providing tamariki with accurate, engaging, and exciting information about conservation, science and the natural world.
●being active throughout Aotearoa.
●being inclusive and whānau-friendly.
●working collaboratively to preserve and protect our natural heritage.

Wow! A great KCC morning at the Estuary in Clive! A huge mihi - thank you to the families who joined in. 🥰 Grateful to Marilyn Scott from Save The Dotterels for her valuable insight and knowledge about the endangered Banded Dotterel.

🙌 AND a big effort collecting rubbish on the beach: 170 kilos collected - with a decent amount recycled (timber, scrap metal, plastic bottles...). Well done team 💪

🦭 The local seal resident popped by afterwards to say thanks to the tamariki for their hard mahi ☺️🙏

And a big thumbs up 👍 to Hastings District Council - Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga for the free pass to the Transfer Station! 💪

Lots of fun at Hawke's Bay Fish & Game on Wednesday! Davey taught us some fascinating facts about tuna / long fin eels - incredible that they travel to Tonga to breed! Then the young leaf shaped larvae (called leptocephali) then float back to NZ on ocean currents 😳 Amazing.
Kids also loved having the opportunity to catch a trout safely (and release them) and learn about the hatchery.
Thanks team!

🐙🦀 A brilliant adventure and explore at Te Angiangi Marine Reserve last month. A special taonga, brimming with sea life. The octopus were a highlight!
Thank you to Jacque from the National Aquarium and Russ from DOC for supporting this event. ❤️ The children (and adults) loved it!
