The Havelock North Rotary Club has officially completed the refurbishment of the access ramp to the first-floor art room at Keirunga Gardens, ensuring full wheelchair accessibility for our community's artists.
To mark the occasion, a small group assembled last Wednesday to celebrate the project's completion. The upgrade was proudly co-funded by Keirunga Gardens Arts and Craft Inc, the Artists Group, and the Havelock North Rotary Club.
During the gathering, Chris Moore, Chairperson of the Arts and Crafts committee, spoke about the building's 50-year history and expressed sincere gratitude to the Rotarians for their hard work and dedication to preserving this local asset.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fantastic community project!

Recently, another parcel of 400 spectacles made the long journey from Hawkeโ€™s Bay to the Eye Care For Africa clinic in Shinyanga, Tanzania, arriving safely on May 2nd.

Every pair we collect undergoes a rigorous process before finding a new home:
Donated: Used spectacles are collected locally.
Processed: They are cleaned, checked, and measured.
Packed: Carefully prepared for their journey to Tanzania.

The freight for this latest shipment cost NZ$440. When you break that down, it costs just $1.10 to provide a pair of glasses to a Shinyanga resident who otherwise couldn't afford them. Talk about a small price for a massive vision upgrade!

๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ฉ๐’Š๐’ˆ ๐‘ท๐’Š๐’„๐’•๐’–๐’“๐’†:
In the last two years alone, we have successfully sent 3,300 pairs of spectacles to Tanzania.
A huge thank you to NZ Post and Tanzania Posts Corporation for ensuring our parcels arrive safely. And of course, thank you to our community for your continued donations!
Have old glasses lying around? Donโ€™t let them gather dust - donate them and help someone see the world a bit more clearly. There is a collection box at the Ophthalmology Dept, Villa 3 at Hastings Memorial Hospital or any Rotary Club member would be pleased to pass them on to Havelock North Rotary Club.

If you haven't visited Hikanui Pฤ (Tainui Reserve) recently, itโ€™s worth a trip. The recent clearing work has revealed the siteโ€™s true character - the kลซmara storage pits are now easy to spot, and the vista across to the Ranges is spectacular.
Many thanks to the Hastings District Council for the conservation of this significant site. Itโ€™s looking better than ever.

A big thank you to Moana Road for such a generous donation. Their gift of 300 pairs of glasses is going to change 300 lives in Tanzania. Amazing work, Eye Care For Africa!

Itโ€™s inspiring to see so many local organisations coming together for the greater good! Re-Source does incredible work, and the Havelock North Rotary Club is truly privileged to partner with them to support our community.

Two days. Sixteen orders. Seven services.
And counting...

Across two days this week, 16 referrals for firewood have come through to Re-Source from 7 different community services, each one a household needing help to stay warm.๏ฟฝ

And that's not to mention all the other referrals we are working through.

Here's how we make it work:
In this project Re-Source is the connector. Our network of 141 community groups means we have tremendous reach and can quickly connect with the right groups for each project.

We communicate with the services, take the referrals, and record the details: which service, who the referrer was, where the delivery is going, when it's needed, and who lives in the household.
๏ฟฝ
Rotary Club of Havelock North collect the firewood and handle the delivery, they're the muscle and the wheels in this project. We pass the details to Charlie and his team, and the wood gets to the door. Thank you Charlie!๏ฟฝ ๐Ÿ’š

Record-keeping isn't admin for the sake of admin, it's the foundation that everything else stands on. We collect vital data that informs our understanding of need in the community. It's how we communicate with funders accurately and comprehensively, and without that, there would be no grants to make this work possible. It's also how we can show you, our community, what a tremendous difference your support makes.๏ฟฝ

A huge thank you to Charlie and all the team at Havelock North Rotary for your generosity and hard work.

And to our Re-Source team who do so much to make all our projects come to life: The Hub team. The administration and coordination. The grant applications, tracking and reporting. The management, connection and project development. Every part is necessary to get these projects off the ground and keep them running.๏ฟฝ

And this is just one of many that move through our Resource Recovery Hub each day.

๏ฟฝRe-Source: More Impact. Less Waste.

Did you know the "Village Blacksmith" has been watching over Havelock North for over 35 years?
In 1988, to celebrate their 25th anniversary, the Havelock North Rotary Club wanted to gift something truly special to our community. They commissioned renowned artist Terry Stringer to create the iconic bronze sculpture we see today near the iSite visitor centre.
But there is a piece of real history sitting right next to him! The anvil used in the sculpture isn't just a prop - it is the original anvil used by local blacksmith Robert Given at the village forge.
Next time youโ€™re by the fountain, take a second to appreciate this salute to our villageโ€™s hardworking roots.

We had a brilliant time at the first-ever Earth Day at the Havelock North Domain this past Sunday.
Special thanks to our community for the influx of spectacles for Eye Care For Africa. Your donations undergo a rigorous process -from ultrasonic cleaning to precision measuring on a Nidek lensmeter - before being shipped to Tanzania.
Clearer vision means better opportunities, and it all starts with your generosity.
Eye Care For Africa is a Hastings-based charity making a world of difference.

We want your unwanted specs.
If, when cleaning out your โ€˜everything drawerโ€™, you find a pair of glasses (or five!) that you no longer use, donโ€™t bin them - bring them to the Rotary tent at the Re-Source Earth Day.
We will be taking your pre-loved specs on a journey:
1๏ธโƒฃ Collection: Drop them off at the Re-Source Earth Day event.
2๏ธโƒฃ Refurbish: Our Havelock North Rotary team will clean, check, and measure every pair.
3๏ธโƒฃ Impact: Theyโ€™ll be sent to the Eye Care For Africa clinic in Shinyanga, Tanzania, to help someone in need see clearly.
Itโ€™s the ultimate way to recycle: keeping waste out of our Hawke's Bay landfills whilst giving better sight to someone on the other side of the world.
