What a way to end the cricket season by our St John's Colts team who took on Napier boys white colts team. NBHS won the toss and elected to bat.

A great start seeing wickets fall early bowled by Trinav V and Angus Walker taking a catch, knocking over the stumps Ezra Nieuwland then a stumping for Ethan Thomas from Lucas Collings spin, 22/3. NBHS then settled in before a catch from Harlyn Douglas off Angus Walkers bowling and another Ethan Lucas combo 65/5. Congratulations to Fletcher Lochhead and Baxter Craner who held the crease 65 and 29 respectively top scoring for Napier before Ethan had both bowled. NBHS ending with 193/8 from their 40 overs.

Trinav and Samuel Griffiths opened the batting - Sam making 16 before he was caught. Gus Hogenesch came and went and in came Lucas - apparently looking to better his mate Lucas in the Napier team. Lucas and Trinav worked the wicket well taking the runs when they were on offer. Trinav went for 8 from 35 doing an openers job and Ezra came in. Lucas continued to find the gaps and Ezra finding the scoring ball making a quick 17 from 19 including a 6. Ethan then looked to push the scoring with Lucas before he feel caught for 15. With Lucas settled at the crease the colts just needed to be patient having the run rate down below 1.0. Zac Palmer made a timely 8 187/7 before Harlyn had an lbw 187/8 and Augus Walker 3no to see the team home 196/7 in 34 overs. Lucas making 87no with 10 4s and 2 6s consolidating the innings.

No cricket now til term 4 - what will they all do??

A massive thank you to Ben for coaching this team and navigating low player numbers and also to the incredible support of these boys from their parents.

FINALS TIME.
Some pretty poor weather made the camera remain inside so apologies for the lack of images.

SJC won the toss and decided to bat but Wairarapa had done their homework and looked to limit our scoring. Rohit making 5, Kody 13, Thomas 13, Austin 22 and young gun Lucas 43no with Alex 4no - 114/6 from 20 overs.

Wairarapa locked in from the first ball and no matter what we threw at them or blew past they were unphased taking the game in 12.5 overs 117/0 - congratulations to Jonny Barrs 64no and Josh Fairbrother 46no. Very deserved winners.

To our boys - well done its not easy to win in a tournament situation but you put yourself in the best possible position.
To our captain Austin - when CD cricket comment on the quality of you as a person and a cricketer we can't ask for much more from a leader! Thomas our vice well done some outstanding bowling and growth in batting has been a pleasure to watch.

To the rest of our year 13s for which this was their last RTB. Rohit your work ethic and ability to be your authentic self is inspirational. Kody you never fail to give it everything - particularly leg side and sprinting. We will miss you but wish you well in your future cricket endeavors.
I suppose we'd better mention the year 13 that popped off to volleyball instead - thank you Connor for your support over the RTB.
Thank you from the Volleyball boys to the St John's cricket team for your support over tournament week!
To the rest of the team - well done - we hope you enjoyed the experience and that you are keen for next year and to gain that bat back!

Thank you to Mr Oliver who came away again this year with the team and to all the parents that packed the baking and supported them either from a far or by travelling down. These boys are a special group and it is a reflection not only of the School and their values but those that your families uphold. Congratulations on raising such "good men".

Lastly to Shaiju - thank you again for taking time away from work and home to give these lads the opportunity to yes play cricket but also to enjoy this total experience. We are truly grateful for all you do!

What is it they say about Palmy weather - 4 seasons in one day. Well this one was just windy and slightly wet!
In the last round robin match against Fielding we were put into the field first. Bowling into the wind (according to Thomas) reduced your bowling speed by 40km/hr and there were several hat chasing moments and balls changing direction.
Wickets were gained by Rohit (3), Austin (2) and Daniel and Thomas 1 each Fielding making 81/7 from their 20 overs.

Rohit and Daniel opened the batting and looked in good form (with the wind particularly) both making 36; Rohit seeing the innings out with Ethan chasing down the total 84/2 off 9 overs.

This set up the same finalists as 2025 Wairarapa College vs St John's!
