(1)

The EYAG is a group of dedicated and energetic ethnic youth people from 13 to 29 years old, who meet every month with SHAMA’s community development worker to discuss ethnic youth matters in the city. They also plan activities to contribute to the empowerment of ethnic youth in Hamilton, New Zealand. The position of youth advisor is a volunteer position, based on the advisor’s experience in working

with or among young people. Being part of the EYAG allows the volunteers to improve their leadership capabilities, develop/improve skills for working with ethnic communities, connect with people from different backgrounds, and express the concerns of ethnic youth in Hamilton. Young people and the community are welcome to discuss ethnic youth issues with the EYAG. The EYAG is supported by SHAMA’s Community Development Scheme Project. This project will run for three years, and is funded by the Department of Internal Affairs.
