To our amazing TLF community... we have sad news to share.
Due to unprecedented challenges in the coffee and disability sectors, The Lucy Foundation is closing its doors.
This is not the news we had hoped to share. However, the volatility of the coffee market together with the challenges facing our domestic and international disability communities have resulted in insurmountable financial and attitudinal barriers throughout all stages of our inclusive value chain.
Last week, we celebrated the graduation of our third cohort of trainees from the Seed Training Programme. We will continue to support them to move on to community employment arrangements as anticipated, as well as roasting and selling TLF coffee until the end of April 2025.
Our final shipment of green beans from Mexico is expected to arrive in Aotearoa New Zealand mid-2025, which will be sold directly to roasters. All profits from these sales will be reinvested back into the team in Mexico, who are busy preparing a project plan that will promote disability inclusive employment, and that we hope will set them up for future success and sustainability.
We want to finish strong - following our values and empowering disabled people.
Thank you for journeying with us.
