Oops - happened to me again today 🙈

Good thing I can quickly check the app to see which ones are open and nearby 😉

On the Mainstream Green Op Shop bus tour we got a look behind the scenes at Hospice Te Awamutu.

Hospice Shop Waikato have a cool point of difference: a curated section if you want the designer pieces and don’t mind paying a little more, plus plenty of lower-priced clothing with multi-buy discounts if you prefer the hunt.

It was my first time out the back, and a bit sad to learn some people use Op Shops as a dumping ground. Around 20-30% of what is donated here cannot be sold - soiled, broken, and so on - and Hospice has to pay to dispose of it.

The good donations, and there are plenty, help pay for the doctors and care staff looking after people in palliative care. A pretty amazing thing to support while you shop.

Before your next drop: if you wouldn’t give it to a close friend, don’t donate it. Claimed shops can say on their OPPIES profile whether they are taking donations, and note anything they particularly need, so check the app before you go.

Thank you Hospice Te Awamutu for the look out the back, and Mainstream Green and the councils who backed the tour.

Come with me on an op shop bus tour - Hamilton to Te Awamutu.

Huge thank you to Mainstream Green, Waipā District Council and Hamilton City Council for organising such a fun Slow Fashion September day. Favourite part wasn’t even the shopping (although I did love that) - it was chatting and sharing finds with everyone on the bus. Was a real fun, community vibe.

We visited seven charity shops:
Red Cross Te Awamutu · SPCA Te Awamutu · Everybody’s Op Shop · Hospice Te Awamutu · Parish of St John’s Op Shop · Salvation Army Te Awamutu · Hato Hone St John Te Awamutu

And had a delicious complimentary coffee in our own cup from RedKitchen Cafe & Store Te Awamutu

Want to do a your own version with friends? Try the new OPPIES Roadie feature on the app! Enter a start point, end point, choose the shops, save the route and use it to navigate. All for free.

Swapped 10 items out and brought 10 new-to-me pieces home.

A few are definite keepers. A few will move on again.

Also learned that bike shorts under a skirt = smart for bottoms…
but fashion hair and tricky tops = not ideal for try-ons 😅

Still calling it a successful swap 👌♻️🛍

Brought 10 items along and left with a bag of new-to-me clothes.♻️🛍

Revamp Style Swap in Cambridge is such a fun Sustainable/Slow fashion September event - a clothing swap with a short panel chat, great people, and a really easy way to refresh your wardrobe without supporting fast fashion.

$20 entry (or $40 VIP for early access), bring up to 10 clean, good-quality items, and swap them for free. Extra pieces are just $5.

Thanks so much to the Revamp Style Swap team for organizing 🙌 you gals are fab!

Have you been to a clothes swap before?

Good Morning Everyone,

We have an exciting announcement today with the Introduction of OPPIES Roadie as part of our Mobile App's latest update!
This is another industry first feature that has taken many hours - and brain cells - to develop.

What is OPPIES Roadie?

OPPIES Roadie allows you to plan and create an OpShopping road trip, for yourself or to share with friends for a group roadie.
Give OPPIES a starting point and a destination. OPPIES Roadie looks along that journey for OpShops worth discovering, and you decide which ones become part of your trip.

Visit www.oppies.nz/roadies for the full updated write up on how it works. We will be releasing a How-To video soon.

The latest updates on the OPPIES App are;
▶ OPPIES Roadies.
▶ Improved OPPIES Community Feed for multiple images.
▶ Secure Password Reset from the Login screen.
▶ Paid Ads (to help support the running costs, and keep it free for you to use)
If you or someone you know has a local business that would like to advertise with OPPIES, head over to www.oppies.nz/advertise - we have tried to implement ads in a tasteful way, as to not crowd or shadow the actual purpose behind OPPIES.
Again, we are open to suggestions on how this could be improved.

We really appreciate all the support you have all shown for helping us bring together more OpShopping communities across New Zealand and Australia ☺️

ps, OPPIES Roadies is currently in Beta, and we would love your feedback on what's not working or what could be improved upon.

$20 entry. Five bags. As many clothes as you can fit. 🛍

Thrifty Threads by Hospice Waikato was such a fun way to thrift sustainably this weekend. Hospice Waikato

Great finds, great energy, and a whole lot of clothing kept in circulation instead of heading to landfill.

Already looking forward to next years one!

Who else went?

One of my favourite OpShops in Hamilton - Habitat for Humanity Te Rapa Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Opened OPPIES, headed there, tried a few things on, and left with a little haul. ♻️🛍

Also left a review and shared a couple of finds in the Community Feed while I was at it.

Anyone else been to this one lately? And do you prefer a 50% off sale or a fill-a-bag?

➡️ Download the app at your app store or by the link in bio.

Sustainable September hits different when your new wardrobe already exists… in an OpShop. 👗

Less landfill. More finds. More support for the causes behind the shops.

Proud to stand with Charitable Reuse Australia this month ♻️
