IIMC is a non-profit NGO based in the rural districts south of Kolkata, India, that carries out developmental projects under the direction of Dr Sujit Brahmochary. IIMCA is the New Zealand branch of the Institute for Indian Mother and Child in India (IIMC). We support the activities of the IIMC by collecting child sponsorship funds and transferring these to the IIMC. Betty-Ann Kamp, whose children
have both volunteered with the IIMC, is our secretary/treasurer. Dr Sunniva Jones, a previous IIMC volunteer, is our chairperson. The activities of IIMC, all managed by local volunteers, include 22 schools which serve over 2000 children many of whom are sponsored through an IIMC child sponsorship programme; 5 rural health clinics which see over 50,000 patients each year; a microcredit lending programme to give poor people a start in business; a disabled children’s respite centre; and a women’s empowerment and peace project.
