24th AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND SCOUT JAMBOREE

A Jamboree is a significant gathering of Scouts, either on a national or international level. The 24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree will take place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton, Waikato, from December 28, 2026, to January 7, 2027. This event occurs every three years, and the theme for this year's Jamboree is "TOGETHER TAHI." This theme represents t

he spirit of friendship, teamwork, and shared experiences, encouraging participants to embark on exciting adventures, explore new horizons, and build lifelong friendships while enjoying the journey. For many Scouts, the Jamboree is the highlight of their Scouting experience. Some may later return as Venturers or Rovers to assist as youth staff or adult leaders, but all will cherish the extraordinary memories created during their time at the Jamboree as Scouts. As we look forward to the 24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree, let's take a moment to enjoy the images from the previous Jamboree.

JAMBOREE BADGE/LOGO UPDATED

You will notice a change on the Jamboree badge: the word "TAHI" has been replaced with "KOTAHITANGA." Initially, there were concerns regarding the translation of "TAHI" and its connection to the concept of "TOGETHER." To address these concerns and ensure inclusivity, we opted for the rich, communal word "KOTAHITANGA." This beautiful word embodies the essence of unity, togetherness, and solidarity, resonating deeply with the foundation of Scouting. By embracing "KOTAHITANGA," we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a spirit of community and cooperation among all participants.

THE STORY BEHIND THE JAMBOREE BADGE/LOGO

As we enter the latter half of this decade, we want to showcase Scouting and what it means to be a Scout.
The fern symbol, commonly known as the silver fern, is endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand and is recognised for the distinctive silver-white undersides of its fronds. It serves as the country's national emblem.

The word "TOGETHER" signifies self-confidence, level-headedness, organisation, and companionship. "KOTAHITANGA" conveys the message of unity, togetherness, and solidarity, emphasising the importance of friendship, teamwork, and shared experiences.

The reef knot is a timeless emblem of unity and camaraderie. It exemplifies the fundamental principles of Scouting in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world, highlighting the bonds formed through collaboration and shared experiences.

By featuring the words "TOGETHER" and "KOTAHITANGA," we are showcasing Scouting to Aotearoa New Zealand and the world. It encourages participants to embark on adventures together, broaden their horizons, and cultivate lifelong friendships while cherishing every moment of their journey.

The colours on the Jamboree badge/logo — red and yellow ignite a sense of passion and foster deeper connections among individuals. They evoke the warmth of days outdoors, vibrant laughter shared among friends, and the sheer joy of life itself. Black represents the strength of unity and emphasises belonging and community. These colours connect our everyday experiences to the enduring legacy shared by past Jamborees and future generations.

PĀNUI - ISSUE NO. 02 2025

24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree

Preparations are currently in progress for the upcoming 24th Aotearoa New Zealand Scout Jamboree, which will be led by Laurence Fauatea and his dedicated team, including Kerry Averill, Stephen Keatley, Jane Hansen, John Saunders, Helena Kennard, and John Lovett.

The Jamboree is scheduled to take place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton, Waikato, from December 28, 2026, to January 7, 2027. The theme for this event is ā€œTogether Tahiā€; which aims to provide young participants with opportunities for engagement, self-discovery, and the formation of lasting friendships.

While returning to Mystery Creek will likely be met with mixed reactions among adults, the site is well known, meets infrastructure requirements and improves the likelihood of delivering a successful Jamboree. Alternative sites across both the North and South Island were explored; however, the prohibitive infrastructure costs of a new site for up to 4,000 Scouts, Kaiārahi, and Volunteers contributed to this reluctant final decision. As planning progresses for the 24th Scout Jamboree, initial efforts will also begin to evaluate potential locations for recommendation to the Director and Leadership team of the 25th Scout Jamboree.
Despite the familiar location, we anticipate it will be an incredible event for all who are able to attend!

To stay informed about the latest updates and planning news related to the Jamboree, participants are encouraged to join the private Facebook group, ā€œRoad to the NZ24 Scout Jamboreeā€, which is specifically for Scout Leaders and staff planning to attend. Further information will also be available soon on the official Jamboree website.

Let’s work together to make this an unforgettable adventure!
