Kia Ora e te Whānau 💜

We've got some awesome news!! More than 80% of eligible wāhine at Taakiri Tuu are now up to date with their cervical screening, and our Māori wāhine are above 80% too! That's the national target, and a first for our clinic. Ka mau te wehi! 🎉

Thank you to all wāhine who came forward, whether you booked in with our nurses or did a self-swab at home. A big mihi to our amazing nurses, reception team and Support to Screening team for all the phone calls and home visits that helped make this happen for our wāhine.

Also, congratulations to the lucky winner of our Wāhine Hauora Hamper! Whom we have made contact with. A big thank you to the local businesses who donated to our hamper Octavo Māreikura Journey + Co 💝

If you haven't had your screen yet and you're thinking you’d rather not know, than know, then here's something that might help. Screening looks for HPV (human papillomavirus), one of the most common viruses there is. Around 4 in 5 people will have it at some point, usually without ever knowing, and most of the time our bodies clear it on their own.

Cervical Screening finds the HPV that hasn't cleared, years before it could become a problem, so it can be looked after early. For most wāhine the result comes back clear, giving you peace of mind for five years until your next screening is due. Knowing is where your power is 💪🏽

The self-swab is just as accurate as a test taken by a nurse or doctor. It's quick, private, and if you can’t get to the clinic, our Support to Screening team can bring the kit right to your door 🏠

Are you aged 25 to 69 and not sure if you're due? Give our clinic a call on 0800822547 to check if you’re due for your FREE cervical screening. Our nurses are always happy to kōrero and answer any pātai.

Taking five minutes for your screen is a gift to yourself and your whānau 🫶🏼

Ngā mihi nui,
The Taakiri Tuu team 💚

🎀 From surviving breast cancer to helping other wāhine get screened.

Our beautiful Lorrelle knows first-hand just how important breast screening can be.

After facing her own breast cancer journey and coming out the other side, she now uses that experience to awhi and encourage other wāhine through her mahi with Ka Ora Tātou – Support to Screening.

For Lorrelle, this mahi is personal. She knows the fear, the uncertainty and the strength it takes to walk through a cancer diagnosis — and now she’s helping other wāhine take that first step by getting screened.

Her story is a powerful reminder that screening matters. Early detection matters. And sometimes, hearing it from someone who has walked that road can make all the difference.

We’re so proud of you, Lorrelle, for sharing your story and using your journey to uplift other wāhine. 💗

If you’re due for your breast screening, don’t put it off. Get the girls out and get checked. 🎀

Did you know? For many wāhine, cervical screening is now a simple private self-swab, no speculum needed, just a couple of minutes, and just as accurate. Ask our nurse if this is an option for you.

Can’t make it into the clinic? No problem! just let our nurse know, and we can organise for our Support to Screening Outreach team to deliver a self-swab kit straight to your door.

Due for both cervical and breast screening? Book them both together! Complete your self-swab in clinic, then walk down to our radiology based at Taakiri Tuu to complete your breast screening. Two done, one visit. 🙌

The more we talk about screening, the more normal it becomes, and the easier it is for all of us to stay on top of our health. Let’s make this Mahuru the month we get it sorted, together.

📞 Call Taakiri Tuu on 0800 822 547 or
📞 Call Miro O Te Ora on 0800 483 564
to check what you’re due for and book in with a nurse.

Tag someone who needs this reminder, you might just be the reason she books in.

Kia Kaha Wāhine Mā! 🌸💪🏽

Recently we had the privilege of coming together at Kirikiriroa Marae for Te Aratohu Tangihanga Wānanga facilitated by Taukiri Hereora.

Taukiri generously shared her mātauranga and experience with our kaimahi, strengthening our knowledge and confidence to support whānau through te wā o te mate and tangihanga.

The wānanga explored both the practical and tikanga aspects of this journey — from palliative and end-of-life care and understanding what happens when someone passes, through to caring for tūpāpaku, natural preservation methods, laying tūpāpaku into a whāriki, and navigating the different processes whānau may encounter.

At the heart of the day was the kaupapa:

Mā te whānau e ārahi — whānau led.

Our role is to walk alongside, tautoko and advocate for our whānau, ensuring they have the knowledge, confidence and space to make the decisions that are right for them and their tūpāpaku.

He mihi nui ki a Taukiri for sharing this important mātauranga with us, and to our kaimahi who came together to learn, share and strengthen the way we support our whānau.

He mātauranga hei kawe mā tātou, mō ō tātou whānau.
