On the second day of Volunteering New Zealand NZ Volunteer Week, we are celebrating the youth volunteers! Volunteering at GDYT can be helping out on a stall at a community event, offering something to our younger community members like face painting, organising a youth event like Movies in the Park or Games at the Theatre or the Youth Night Market, pitching in on an Art Soup working bee, teaching a skill, delivering posters... our opportunities are youth-driven and adult-supported.

*We have some one-off and project-based opportunities for youth to volunteer coming up! It's an opportunity to make a difference, make friends, and get experience and training for your CV. If you would like to find out more, email Katrina at: [email protected]

Today is the first day of National Volunteer Week and GDYT would like to kick the week off with huge thanks to all the volunteers who have helped make "THAT Outdoors Group" such a success. There's no doubt it has been life enhancing for many of the young people who have taken part over the past 3+ years of the programme.

Special thanks goes to the amazing Newton family - Dan, who started this whole thing, Jo, who has led us on the exciting overnight trips and organised the awesome trainings including how to look after our gear and the recent river crossing practice, Emma, who has made the posters and logo and kept up the momentum for participation and planning, and Glen, who has given advice about gear, helped with planning and driving, and kept an eye on comms while we are out in nature. Together, you have upskilled many youth and adults through the programme, who are now more confident and enthusiastic to enjoy our outdoor environment safely but also with a bit more adventure.

SuperBrain Productionz auditions for their next show are open now.

πŸŽ„ ADULT PERFORMERS – WE NEED YOU! πŸŽπŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί
Tag someone who should be auditioning! πŸ‘‡πŸŽ„βœ¨

While we're thrilled to see plenty of interest from our younger performers, we're still looking for more adults to audition for **A Christmas Story: The Musical**!

This is **not a junior production**. It's a full-scale musical with adult principal roles, featured characters, ensemble opportunities, great vocal numbers, and plenty of dance.

We're especially keen to hear from adults who love to move! You don't need formal dance training, but if you've got rhythm, energy, and enjoy performing, we'd love to see you at auditions. We also have opportunities for stronger dancers who can help bring some of the bigger musical numbers to life.

Have you ever thought about getting back on stage?
Used to perform and miss it?
Always wanted to give musical theatre a go?

Now is your chance! You don't need to be a professional performer. We are looking for enthusiastic adults of all ages and experience levels who are willing to be part of something special.

Our young performers are signing up in droves. Now we need the adults to step up and help create the magic alongside them. Whether you're a singer, actor, dancer, or a bit of all three, there is a place for you in this production.

This is an excellent opportunity being arranged by the Runanga Community Trust.

For residents in the areas listed, for ages 14 and over.
The cost of First Aid Training and the timing and location of courses offered can be a barrier for people, so this is an excellent opportunity!
A great skill to have and something for the CV.

Win an Air NZ Family Mystery Break!

We would LOVE you to nominate us (Grey District Youth Trust) for this $1,000 donation from NBS!

By nominating us (or any West Coast-based non-profit), you go into the draw for a mystery break.

If we got this $1,000, it would really help us with providing the after school and evening activities we offer for free, with mentors who help our young people learn creativity-related skills and build new friendships, confidence, and a drive to contribute to our community.

To help celebrate our community we’re giving giving one lucky West Coast family the chance to win an Air New Zealand Family Mystery Break valued at $2,419.

No Tech Club or Open Studio today at Art Soup. We are closed for the holiday and open again tomorrow.

Did you know... each session, we have an adult staff/volunteer and a youth "Soupervisor" on duty? This gives our youth a chance to lead the sessions and get valuable experience for their CVs and future goals. And it means young people can come in and connect with and get help from their peers, not just the adult on duty.

Here's our schedule, and there are updates on our website, too!

Our community canvas is coming along! Our wonderful art mentor Ranelle Verberne started this at a recent Left Bank Art Gallery event, and our Art Soup youth artists are adding some finishing touches. Lots of study and appreciation of everyone's work is happening along the way.
