Bula Vinaka, West Coast! 🇫🇯🌺
This week, we are proud to celebrate Fijian Language Week — Macawa ni Vosa Vakaviti!
A heartfelt Vinaka vakalevu (thank you very much) to our vibrant Fijian community here on the Coast for sharing your rich language, traditions, warm hospitality, and culture with all of us.
Diversity makes our community stronger, kinder, and brighter! Let’s learn and share together this week.
Try using these words this week:
🌴 Bula (boo-lah) – Hello / Welcome / Wish you good health
🌴 Vinaka (vee-nah-kah) – Thank you
🌴 Vinaka vakalevu – Thank you very much
🌴 Sota tale (soh-tah tah-leh) – See you again

🌟 ST JOHN’S CULTURE EVENING: SHARING FOOD & HOME! 🌟
I had the absolute privilege of speaking to the wonderful young students at St John Greymouth Youth Devision for their Culture Evening! 💚✨
It was such a joy to talk about what we do at the Multicultural Council and share a bit of my own South African heritage. 🇿🇦🇳🇿 But to see each and every child there so proud of their own heritage was an absolute blessing!
This youth division is a beautiful reflection of our community, with representation and delicious traditional food shared from:
🇦🇺 Australia
🇿🇦 South Africa
🇵🇭 Philippines
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka
🇮🇳 India
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland
🇮🇪 Ireland
🇳🇿 Kiwi & Māori traditions
I truly believe that when we share our traditional food, we share a little piece of home. Seeing these young minds celebrate where they come from with so much pride made for an unforgettable night!
A massive thank you to St John Greymouth Youth for having me. The future of our community is in great hands! 🌈✨
