It was a sad day when we said farewell to these two ladies as Literacy Aotearoa closed their doors for the final time at the Centre earlier this month.

Susan and Sudar have been part of our daily lives for some years now, and I miss their cheery faces and conversations throughout the day.

Best of luck ladies, for whatever opportunities come your way.

Last Thursday, 14 May, we were delighted to host a special lunch for the Happy Sewers, our community sewing group who meet every Thursday here at Glenfield Community Centre in our Art Space.

It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate the group, their creativity, and the care they put into their work — including their recent community project making heart cushions and bags for Harbour Hospice.

We were also pleased to bring together some of the people and organisations who help make this kind of community connection possible. Thank you to Rik Fothergill from Rotary Kaipātiki, Vicky Parker from Harbour Hospice, and the group’s coordinator, Harvi Channa, for joining us and helping mark the occasion.

Glenfield Community Centre has recently been granted a year's worth of funding for the group through Lottery Auckland Community to support the Happy Sewers, and Rotary Kaipātiki has also generously supported the group over the past year.

A warm thank you to everyone involved. It is wonderful to see practical skills, generosity, friendship, and community spirit stitched together in such a meaningful way.
