🔨 BUNNINGS NIGHT 🔨
It is always a great night at Bunnings New Lynn and this week it was our keas turn. They put their listening skills and creative minds to the test as they hammered away to create wooden boxes before decorating them. Tīno pai keas, we love watching you learn new skills and put them to the test! I wonder what you’ll store in your new boxes?

🏁 PINEWOOD DERBY 🏁
Last weekend it was the highlight of the cub year - PINEWOOD DERBY! Our cubs have spent most of this term working on their pinewood cars. The process requires them to consider physics, design and creativity. They had to practice patience as they worked tirelessly in their cars and then resilience as they raced them not always coming in the position they had hoped. It was a hugely successful event for GESG with winners for design and creativity won by our amazing rangatahi. Even more incredible was Alex winning for the zone for the second year in a row! Miharo Alex!! Good luck for nationals!
A huge BRAVO to all the leaders and parent help who make this event happen! We can’t do it without these brilliant volunteers. Also a big ngā mihi nui to Anita Elers-Cooper for taking the incredible photos on the day!

⛺️ CAMPFIRE ⛺️
What’s more fun than a zone campfire event?! Our keas represented the group at the zone campfire last week, singing songs and performing skits. It is always fun but this night was particularly special as we celebrated Katy’s Kowhai Award! Kia pai tō mahi Katy - it has been a long time since we celebrated a kea Kowhai award and what better way than at campfire!

Last week our Scouts tried out their shooting skills at the Waitakere R***e Club. This was a fun night learning new skills and working together as a group. It required patience and concentration! Ka rawe Scouts you did us proud!

🚨PIE DAY - IT’S HERE! 🚨

Reminder - Pies are being delivered to the den tomorrow (Wednesday 16th). If you’ve put in an order be there between 5:30-8 to collect your order. Please note we do not have capacity to store any pies on site - all MUST be collected tomorrow. See you there!

🧗🏾Climbing Adventures 🧗🏾

Term 3 is often an “indoor” term due to weather but this week the keas proved that being indoors doesn’t stop adventures! It was a great night for team work and building resilience as the keas worked on their climbing skills and safety - checking they were clicked in properly and supporting each other with cheering from below or pulling down on the belay. Tino pai Keas!

This week the Scouts took on the weather and won! A windy and drizzly night meant making the fire to toast the marshmallows was a challenge to say the least. Despite this, they persevered and made delicious s’mores!
