🛒 TRADING POST 📋

What an exciting week it’s been for our group! This week saw the annual Trading Post night at the den. The whole of the zone came to GESG Den for a fun night of buying, making and selling outdoing one another to try and claim victory for their group. It was a tense evening with lots of cubs scrambling to make and sell as many items as possible. It’s always a hard fought night but this year was our year! Our amazing cubs came away with the Trading Post Trophy making a whopping $125 PER CUB over the course of an hour. Ka rawe cubs you did us proud!

Wow! Check out this incredibly opportunity. Visit our friends at Ecomatters tomorrow for some native seedlings and grow yourself a beautiful garden 🪏 🌱 🪴

Our blood, sweat and tears have gone into growing these babies*, and now you get to take one home for free! What?!

Save the date for our native plant giveaway - Saturday 20 June, 10am-2pm. We'll have harakeke, karamū, kawakawa, kōwhai, mānuka, and wharangi to share, which have all been grown with love in our EcoMatters Nursery with the help of our wonderful weekly volunteers.

Our Nursery Manager Eve (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Māmoe, Waitaha) will be there to chat about how to care for your plant, and Rongoā practitioner Juanita De Senna (Te Aupouri, Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, Waikato) will be sharing her knowledge on the medicinal uses of native plants. She'll even have kawakawa and kūmarahou lollipops to share.

Can't wait to see you there, let's all get planting and bring more birdsong and biodiversity into our backyards.

*No actual blood, sweat, or tears included. One plant per person. While stocks last. Part of Auckland Council's Go Native initiative. Thanks Auckland Council!

🏍️ BIKES 🏍️

This week it was the keas turn to learn about bike maintenance. This was a fun hands on session learning how to pump up tyres, look after chains and make sure helmets fit snuggly. Our keas threw them selves into the session and took home a raft of new skills! Tino pai keas, another great session!

This year we are supporting the amazing Give a Kid a Blanket winter campaign. We are asking whānau to donate what they can from the list and we will have a collection box at the Den on session. In Term 3 we will then make a group donation to this amazing cause. We encourage you to talk with your rangatahi about the power of manaakitanga and looking out for others in our community.

🧗🏽‍♂️ ELEVATE 🧗🏽‍♂️

It’s adventure week so of course our cubs took to the climbing walls! A brilliant evening of scrambling up walls, building resilience and plenty of fun. By the evening there were lots of red hands from working so tirelessly on their climbing. Ka rawe cubs! Thanks to Vertical Advenures for having us!
