Tomorrow, between 12pm and 1pm, members of the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union will be stopping work for one hour.

We will continue to answer 111 fire calls.

Volunteer stations in the affected cities and towns will respond, as they regularly do when there are multiple emergencies.

If you are at home, do not leave cooking unattended. Make sure you have working smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and living area.

If there is a fire, get out, stay out, and call 111.

If you are at work, know your building evacuation plan.

If there is a fire or the fire alarm sounds, exit the building, assemble at your safe meeting place and call 111.

If you are on a job site that uses spark or heat generating tools, we ask you to refrain from using these tools during this hour.

It is important to acknowledge that this strike action will not affect the parts of the country served by our volunteers.

Tāperenui a Whātonga. Kua ea. ❤️

Kāre he whakanui kō atu i tēnei Wiki o Te Reo Māori ko tēnei…

Kua tutuki ngā whāinga. Kua tae atu mātou ki ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori katoa o te Tairāwhiti. He kaupapa i tīmata me te wawata, ā, kua tutuki i a tātou.

What better way to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori than by celebrating today’s visit to Tāperenui a Whātonga and reaching a special milestone.

We have now visited all of the Kura Kaupapa Māori across Tairāwhiti, sharing our key fire safety messages with our tamariki in te reo Māori.

It’s been awesome to spend time in each kura, share our Māui Tinei Ahi messages, and have these important conversations around keeping our homes and whānau safe. We know our tamariki are great messengers and will take these kōrero home to share with their whānau — helping spread those key messages even further.

We look forward to engaging with you more in the coming year.

Ka tipu te whaihanga, e hika, ki Uawa! Mauri ora ki a koutou ngā tamariki me ngā kaiako o Te Kura ā-Rohe o Uawa me Kahukuranui.

It was a beautiful day in Uawa for our CRR team and the Tolaga Bay Volunteer Fire Brigade sharing our fire safety messages with the tamariki for the Firewise and Maui Tinei Ahi Programmes.

They even got to experience what happens when the siren goes off for a callout today.

Tairāwhiti Land Managers Working Together for Fire Season

We would like to acknowledge and thank our Tairāwhiti Land Managers Forum for coming together as a dedicated group of forestry partners, farmers and lead agencies to share information, coordinate planning and prepare for the upcoming fire season.

These conversations are an important part of ensuring our land managers are kept up to date with the latest information, emerging risks and fire preparedness messaging as we head into the warmer months.

By working together, sharing local knowledge and supporting one another, we strengthen our collective ability to prevent, prepare for and respond to wildfire across Tairāwhiti.

A sincere thank you to everyone who continues to contribute their time, knowledge and expertise. He waka eke noa – we are all in this together.

Thank you for helping keep Tairāwhiti prepared, connected and resilient.

This morning we welcomed the Service Pathway Students from EIT to the station for a quick drill with our firefighters.

It was awesome to give the students a hands-on taste of what it’s like to be a firefighter, give them an opportunity to exercise their leadership, and follow instructions with equipment they are not familiar with.

Thanks for coming along and getting stuck in!
