We've been busy in the Sherwood Club with draughts, crossword puzzles and bingo to sharpen the concentration and challenge the thinking skills while still having lots of fun🥳(though playing bingo looks very serious🤔)

What a week it has been! We were gifted with $3000.00 from 10 Talents, that great little shop in Ormond Road that sells beautiful handmade clothing, knitting, toys and lots more amazing handcrafts. 😊They generously gave us the donation towards our Sherwood Club programme to further enhance the work we do with our whanau affected by dementia. Thank you 10 Talents from all of us at Alzheimers Gisborne Tairawhiti🥰

Our friends at Bunnings donated the materials for us to build a raised vegetable garden for the Sherwood Club🥕🥦🫜🍓. It will be so lovely to have fresh veges to prepare for our lunches. But first we have to build the raised garden surround. Does anyone have a 150mm post hole borer they could either lend us or come along and help us with the 12 post holes that have to be dug? 🪏Please get in touch if you can help!😍

Music is such a wonderful threrapy for anyone but especuially of you have memory loss or brain health problems such as dementia. At the Sherwood CLub we incoprorate music and singing into our programme as oftern as possible. We are so grateful to volunteers who come in to play for us like Zheng on the piano or Poua on the guitar and when Lynn is accompanied by her husband Mike to facilitate a singalong for us. 🥰 Music and singing brings joy to peoples lives, brings back wonderul memories and provides an opportunity when everyone can participate.🎼🎼

Introducing our newest staff member to the team, Symeia. Originally from Brazil, Symeia has been in New Zealand since 2022 and living in Gisborne all that time. We are very excited to welcome her to Alzheimers Gisborne.🤩 Symeia is working 3 days a week in the Sherwood Club.🥳 Going forward, Symeia and Judy are the main staff in the Sherwood Club👏

It's been another busy fortnight in the Sherwood Club. There is something for everyone as we nutrure hidden talents in our clients, from sewing to tututuku panelling, cracking walnuts or just enjoying the sunshine. Whatever you do, it is important to be supported and valued. Engaging with other people in a fun activity is the best therapy for the brain.🪡🧠👀👏
