IT’S TOMORROW, FRIENDS! Having been founded in 1976, Gisborne Printmakers is likely the longest-running print group in Aotearoa and, naturally, they’re celebrating. Their 50-year anniversary show Mahi Tahi opens at Tairāwhiti Museum tomorrow (Friday) at 5.30pm and there’s going to be much to look at and enjoy. All are welcome so nau mai, haere mai. We’ll see you there! ❤️

JUST IN TIME: Oh, boy . . . were we lucky to secure Melanie Tangaere-Baldwin (Ngāti Porou) to deliver this Saturday’s (May 9, 2pm) artist talk, the second in the Friends of Tairāwhiti Museum’s Autumn Series. Melanie will discuss her life and, of course, her work – specifically the sculptural textile installation Ā Mua, currently on show at the museum. But in just a couple of weeks she’ll be heading to Italy as one of eight artists, curators and writers chosen to take part in the prestigious Learning From Venice programme at the 61st Venice Biennale. It’s going to be a mind-blowing experience and we’re stoked she could find the time to share, inform and inspire. So nau mai, haere mai . . . the talks are open to all, they’re free, they’re fun, and we’d love to see you there! 😀❤️

A TERRIFIC TALK: The Friends of Tairāwhiti Museum were stoked to have Julia Gould (weaving) and Gemeaux Riddell (ceramic art) in the gallery for the first of two in our Autumn Series of artists talks. The pair talked about art, community and their show Conversations Of The Soul: Whakawhiti Kōrero a te Wairua to a fantastic audience with heaps of great questions from the floor. Now we’re really looking forward to our next Artist Talk (May 9) so keep an eye out here for details. 😊❤️

WE’RE BACK! That’s right, the Friends of Tairāwhiti Museum is ready for the first of two in its Autumn Series of artists talks and it’s going to be a good one. This Saturday (April 18) at 2pm, long-time friends and collaborators Julia Gould (right, weaving) and Gemeaux Riddell (left, ceramic art) will be in house to talk about art, community and their fantastic show Conversations Of The Soul: Whakawhiti Kōrero a te Wairua. The opening was absolutely packed so we’re looking forward to a more relaxed hikoi through both the show, and the minds of its creators. So nau mai, haere mai . . . it’s open to all, it’s free, it’s fun, and we’d love to see you there! ❤️😊
