Updated works notice 🌿

Please note, this mahi will now begin tomorrow.

Our team will be removing willows alongside the Wharehuanui Trail, running parallel to Malaghans Road next to Millbrook.

This mahi is expected to take around one week. Track management will be in place during the works, including stop/go when needed, to keep everyone safe while trees are being removed.

A big thank you to TRAC and the Lotteries Environment Fund for supporting this important taiao mahi.

Ngā mihi for your patience and care while the works are underway.

Site prep completed at the south end of Wai Whakaata 🌿

Our team has been working with DOC to prepare the site for upcoming track widening, with 125m of carex carefully pruned and some relocated.

This project will help raise and widen a section of track that often floods, including the addition of boardwalks, so the wetland and track can function better together.

A great example of creating access while still caring for the taiao.

Hauora update e te whānau 💚

Our Hauora kaimahi have been busy across a range of kaupapa, including Te Ara Whakamua, Te Ara Tūhono, Job Coach and more.

Each of these kaupapa is about walking alongside whānau, creating pathways, and providing āwhina where it’s needed.

E mihi ana ki a koutou e te whānau. If you or someone you know needs support, please get in touch.

Our Taiao crew spent time out with , continuing a partnership that has grown over the years.

As part of their exploration into helping the taiao, the team got stuck in around some of our 4 year old plants, clearing weeds and spreading mulch to give them a much needed boost.

Always awesome to have extra hands on the whenua and to see rangatahi connecting with this mahi. 🌿

How do we monitor success? 🌿

One method we use is 5 minute bird counts. Each season, our team records the birds we see and hear to help track changes over time as our plants grow and predator numbers decrease.

You can try it at home too. Sit or stand in one spot and count every bird you see or hear in 5 minutes. Apps like Merlin can help with bird identification through calls, photos and step by step guidance.

Rumour has it, there’s a kākā in town! If you spot or hear anything interesting, we’d love to hear about your observations.
