Meet Judy Darragh for this week's Sunday Spotlight 🙌🏼

Judy is one of the creative minds taking part in a creative hui being run by Three Lakes Cultural Trust from 10-14 June. A variety of events will take place across the region covering all things arts, from funding and accessibility to questions around copyright, royalties and AI in the creative sector - plus so much more!

Several events are being held here at Te Atamira, and we're thrilled to be the place so many creative minds will meet. Judy is one such wonderful mind. As well as leading conversations, she will be running free 'Agony Art' clinics for artists to sit down for 10 minutes to bring the real questions - creative blocks, direction shifts, funding, visibility, sustainability, navigating the arts sector, or simply figuring out what comes next.

Bone is Bone
An exhibition from

This beautiful exhibition, currently showing in our Manaaki Nui gallery space, has entered its final weeks. Pop by before Sunday 14 June to sit amongst the work, and enjoy the presence of horses all around you - both through sculptural work, and videos projected through the space.

"I’m connecting the clay in my hands to a feeling from the horses of knowingness, old intelligence, kindness and inter-survival. The horses stand close, examining my hair, checking if the clay is edible, snoring. We are grateful for the shade together."

Feel free to pop in to pick up a copy of our Winter guide, which gives a preview of what's coming up over the coming cold months, from exciting new exhibitions, winter workshops, Term 3 programmes for kids and teens, and so much more.

We'll be dropping these off in some locations across Frankton, Queenstown and Arrowtown in the coming weeks too. Jewellery Workshop with Lisa Walker ONZM
Saturday 8 August, 11am-5pm | $125
-----
Lisa Walker is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most influential contemporary jewellers, and has spent decades pushing the boundaries of what jewellery is traditionally thought of, into something more open and less predictable.

In support of HEAD, the exhibition of her works which will open at Te Atamira next month, Lisa will be running a full-day jewellery making workshop on Saturday 8 August.

The workshop will involve investigation into the materials we have in our environment, and the potential these materials have to be made into jewellery. Through making, we'll discuss the issues of jewellery, life, and art. Places are limited and bound to be booked up fast, so secure a spot while you can at www.teatamira.nz/events/lisa-walker-jewellery-workshop.

⚱️ Clay Fundamentals workshop ⚱️

This introductory two-part workshop is a collaboration between Te Atamira and Wakatipu Potters Group.

Are you keen to give pottery a go but not sure where to start? This two-part workshop led by Kate Ross will give you an introduction to the art of hand-building pottery, focusing on simple cylindrical shapes including tumblers and vases.

The first session on Sunday 21 June will cover how to hand build pieces, and the second session on Sunday 5 July will teach participants how to colour their fired pieces using underglaze or glazing techniques. Each session runs for two hours from 2pm-4pm. Please only book if you are available to attend both.

Spaces are limited, and with how demand pottery courses in Queenstown are, we get the feeling this will book out fast! Please head to the link below to read more and secure your spot now.
