🐄 Farmer's Moving day is coming up on Monday 1 June 2026 - King's Birthday.
🛻This will coincide with holiday traffic, so please be prepared, be patient and take care.

Each year, on June 1, rural New Zealand quietly undergoes one of the biggest coordinated movements on the farming calendar - and most people outside the country have never heard of it.

🚜Known as Moving Day, this is the day when share milkers, contract milkers, farm staff, and their families move to new farms ahead of the new dairy season.
It’s a long-standing tradition tied closely to how the dairy industry is structured in New Zealand - and it's a big logistical undertaking involving people, animals, equipment, and entire households.

🚛If you need to travel on rural roads on 1 June, expect that there may be cattle, large trucks or tractors on the road and leave plenty of time, so that there is no stress for you or for the farmers. Farmers are juggling multiple moving parts for their move, so please be patient.

Here is some good advice for farmers about looking after yourself from our friends at Farmstrong: https://farmstrong.co.nz/managing-moving-day/
and tips and reminders from DairyNZ about Moving Day www.dairynz.co.nz/business/planning/moving-day/

Congratuations team! 👏

Manawatū District is officially New Zealand’s best tasting tap water!💧

At the IXOM National Water Taste Test competition, Manawatū District took out the top spot against water from across the country. A proud moment for our district and the teams behind the scenes who help keep our water safe and reliable every day.

The award-winning sample came from the Stanway-Halcombe Reservoir, rebuilt following the significant damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle. The recognition is a testament to the resilience, hard work and dedication of the Water Services team and the Stanway-Halcombe Rural Water Scheme community throughout the recovery and rebuild.

Congratulations to Water Treatment Operators Adam Jamieson and Jake Stevens, who accepted the award on behalf of MDC.

You can catch Adam and Jake accepting the award on last night’s episode of Seven Sharp.

A busy time in Feilding. Well done NZ Police.

Attributable to Inspector Matenga Gray,
Area Commander Manawatu:

A man was in court Thursday morning following a Police stop which found him in possession of a pistol, drugs and a large amount of cash.

Just after 11.30pm Wednesday night, Police were patrolling on Hobson Street in Feilding and observed a man loading plywood onto a trailer parked on the roadside.

While talking to the man, Police noticed and located a pistol in the driver’s footwell of the vehicle, which resulted in the officers conducting a search.

The male was detained, and police located methamphetamine, drug utensils, ecstasy tablets, and a quantity of cannabis.

A subsequent search of the man located approximately $4,000 in cash strapped to his leg.

The pistol, which was secured in a holster, was later confirmed to be an imitation firearm.

A 42-year-old local man is due in Palmerston North District Court Thursday, charged with unlawfully possess an imitation firearm, possess methamphetamine, possess drug utensils, possess cannabis plant and ecstasy, and fails to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search.

🛡️ Help build a safer community!

We all want our neighbourhoods to be safe places for our families, and there’s a simple, free way we can help each other out and help local Police.
www.CommunityCam.co.nz is a voluntary, New Zealand-wide database where residents and businesses can register the location of their CCTV cameras across Manawatu. Yhe coverage is growing thanks to our neighbours!

➡️How it Works:
✅️Privacy First: You aren't giving the Police (or anyone else) live access to your feed.
You are simply letting Police know that a camera exists at your address.
✅️Saving Time: If a crime happens nearby, the Police can quickly check the community cam map to see who might have captured footage. Instead of door-knocking every house, they can contact you directly to ask if you're willing to check & share your recording.
✅️Community Strength: The more cameras on the map, the better the chance tracking & identifying offenders and keeping our community safe.
👍It’s a small step that makes a huge difference for our local Police and our peace of mind by LOOKING OUT, REACHING OUT and HELPING OUT !

🖐How can you help?
📷 If you have a doorbell cam or security system facing the street, please consider taking two minutes to register it:

1. Read the quick and handy tips and advice on how to best maximise your camera around your home, car and business premise: https://www.neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz/cctv-faqs-tips.
2. Subscribe to our NSM newsletter for local crime stats and to be linked to your street.
3. Go to the CommunityCam website:
https://communitycam.co.nz and click "Register Your Camera";
4. Pin your location, done!

With CCTV technology becoming more readily available and affordable at the consumer level, we’ve been seeing an increase in inquiries related to homeowners, businesses and landlords who have installed cameras on their property.

Scam alert - whilst this occoured in another region - it is a timely reminder to be vigilent about phone / email scams.

SCAM ALERT!
Western Bay of Plenty Police are investigating incidents where people have received a scam phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer.
Acting Sergeant Gea Grilli is urging members of the Western Bay of Plenty community to be alert to the scam.
The 'officer' will call from an unknown number, and provide details in order to seemingly prove their identity.
They claim to be running an undercover operation into fraudulent bank notes coming from large banks in the Tauranga area, and ask people to withdraw money for evidence, with a script provided to answer any questions from the bank.
The scammer will then ask for several bank note serial numbers to determine whether the notes are fraudulent, and will provide a fake number for the victim to file an insurance claim.
The scammer then sends a courier to the victim's house to collect the money.

This is a scam. No legitimate police officer will ever ask you to hand over money, for whatever reason.
If you want to establish the identity of a Police Officer, ask for their full details and contact Police on 105. Tell Police you think you have been contacted by an officer and ask for their details to be confirmed.
Older members of our community are being targeting and Police urge anyone with older or vulnerable family and friends to make them aware of this unlawful activity.

Since 1 April 2026, Western Bay of Plenty Police have received 12 instances of this unlawful activity happening in the community.
We ask people to be vigilant, and to educate themselves on how best to protect themselves from these scams.

New Zealand Police will also never contact people seeking their banking details, card numbers, PIN, or passwords.
There are instances where legitimate police officers will contact you as part of their duties, but New Zealand Police will never ask you to withdraw money.
Remember:
Police will never ask for details about your bank cards, PIN or passwords over a landline phone call.
Trust your instincts - if something doesn't feel right, or is too good to be true, it probably isn’t.
If you are approached, check in with a trusted friend or relative.
If you are still uncertain or confused, ask for the officer’s details, hang up, contact 105 and request that officer call you back.
If you believe you are in the unfortunate position of being a victim of a scam or seem this situation may be familiar, please report the matter to Police and your bank.
