Tony Waugh has recently completed a book titled Ōtamakapua – ‘Child of the Cloud’ — The people, people, the land and the settlements of the Northern Manawatū, which looks at how land, law, and settlement shaped the inland Rangitīkei–Manawatū district. While it focuses on the Ōtamakapua Block, it connects directly to wider New Zealand themes — Māori land tenure, Crown purchasing, settlement schemes, and the long-term impacts of those processes.
The book brings together iwi traditions, government records, and local experience to tell that story in a way that is grounded in place but relevant more broadly.
