Helping the Community...
The Club is made up of a core of five past members of the now defunct Lion’s Club of Eastern Dunedin along with four new members and various family members who help. For larger events members of the Dunedin South Rotary Club also help . The Clubs most popular fund raising activity is helping organisations by running funny money’ Casinos for them. Some of these organisatio
ns need the funds raised for their own use and others are happy to donate all proceeds to a suitable charity. The organisation finds the venue, the participants, the prizes and other details then the Eastern Dunedin Charity Club members come on the night and run the event. For this a small percentage of the profits is charged to cover expenses and provide a fund which the Club can donate to worthy causes. Some of the organisations the Club has helped with their own fund raising are the St. Clair Golf Club, the Tautuku Fishing Club and the Green Island and Mosgiel Football Clubs, the Anderson’s Bay and St Clair Bowling Clubs, Koru Care Otago, Otago Boys High School Travel Fund. Those that have contributed all funds raised directly to charity are WHK Taylors Accountants, Carters Building Supplies and Mitchell’s Tavern Social Club. We also worked with the Rotary Club of Dunedin South to raise a considerable sum of money for St John Ambulance to recoup losses that they had during the Christchurch Earthquakes. The Eastern Dunedin Charity Club has contributed in the following areas:
