Did you know you can fundraise for the Cancer Society in your own way? 💛

A charity gig, a bake sale, a sporting challenge, whatever you're passionate about, YouCan makes it easy to turn that energy into real support for people affected by cancer in your community. Just ask The Muppets.

After a six-year hiatus, the band came back together at Milton St Substation and raised an incredible $6,000 for the Cancer Society, all in memory of their founding drummer, Bruce "Brushes" McMillan.

To the band and to everyone who came out on the night, thank you. This is YouCan fundraising at its best.

Meet Gill. 💛
Every week, Gill shows up for our CanShop Queenstown whānau, on the shop floor, around the committee table, and on Daffodil Day. She has been a cornerstone of CanShop for years, and her dedication is woven into everything it has become.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to say thank you, Gill and to every volunteer who gives their time to the CanShop. You make it possible for us to keep supporting people affected by cancer in our community.

To our whole CanShop volunteer team — Thank you, and we're so grateful.

🧡 Happy National Volunteer Week to our incredible Southern whānau! This week, we're celebrating every single one of you who shows up, rolls up your sleeves, and makes Cancer Society Southern what it is.

From the people quietly baking goods and driving patients to treatment, to those volunteering at our preloved clothing stores, CanShop Queenstown and Daffies Preloved Clothing, and everyone doing the hundred other things that keep our mahi going: you are the backbone of everything we do.

Every kilometre driven, every shift worked, every batch of baking, every smile shared with someone who really needs it, it all matters more than you know. You make sure no one in our communities faces cancer alone, and that means everything.

To every volunteer across our Southern region, from the mountains to the coast, thank you. Genuinely. We couldn't do this without you. 🌼

26% of people who receive donated blood products in New Zealand have cancer, making cancer patients the single largest group of blood recipients in Aotearoa as they go through their treatment.

And it's not just blood. Plasma can be turned into up to 11 life-saving medicines and treat up to 50 illnesses, including cancer, kidney disease, blood clots and liver failure. Demand is growing more than 10% every year, and right now, only 17,435 New Zealanders donate plasma.

Thank you to every blood, plasma and platelet donor this Blood Donor Week (and every other week!) Grab someone you love and book in together at nzblood.co.nz 🩸

Hearing the words “you have cancer” is something no one ever wants to face. Yet every day, it changes lives, not only for the person diagnosed, but for their whānau, friends, and community.

Last May, Amanda Acheson received a leukemia diagnosis after a routine blood test. In an instant, life was divided into “before” and “after.” But Amanda’s journey is not only one of illness, it’s becoming one of transformation.

Thank you to Southland District Council Creative Communities for funding our Bags of Hope initiative. ❤️

Your generosity means local tamariki can pour their creativity and care into handcrafted bags. They are then donated to the hospital and given to people undergoing cancer treatment, to carry their clothes and belongings during their stay. Your support makes a meaningful difference to people in our community navigating a cancer diagnosis.💛

One incredible night can make a difference. But what truly changes lives is the ongoing support that continues long after the music stops and the lights go down.

Behind the scenes of the Cancer Society Queenstown Ball is a huge amount of year-round fundraising, generosity, volunteer hours, sponsorship, planning, and community support — all helping ensure local individuals and families affected by cancer continue receiving the care and support they need.

To every sponsor, donor, volunteer, organiser, and supporter who helped bring this year’s event to life — thank you. You are part of something far bigger than just one evening.

This may be the final curtain on the 2026 Ball, but stay tuned… 2027 will be here before we know it. ✨

We already can’t wait to share what’s ahead and how you can be involved in next year’s edition.
