Toy Library Awareness Week started from 2nd of March.
🚗🎀Fun Facts about Toy Libraries🌏💛:
*Toy libraries have been around since the early 1930s, with the first official toy library established in Los Angeles in 1935.
*Today, toy libraries can be found in over 40 countries, promoting access to a variety of toys for children of all ages.
*The concept of toy rotation, central to toy libraries, helps enhance a child's cognitive and emotional development by introducing new stimuli regularly.
*Toy libraries contribute to sustainability by promoting the reuse of toys, reducing plastic waste and the environmental impact of manufacturing new toys.
*Toy library memberships provide families with cost-effective access to a wide range of toys, reducing the financial burden of constantly buying new toys.
*Toy libraries emphasise the importance of quality play over accumulating a large number of toys, encouraging thoughtful and intentional play.
Our toy library will be open tomorrow during DPC's weekend playgroup from 10am to 12pm. Come and enjoy playgroup and browse our large selection of toys. DPC members borrow toys for free and up to 5 toys per person. Ask about joining if you aren’t a member already!
Our volunteers have been working hard to improve and expand on the selection of toys on hand and have been going through our inventory to sort and repair toys with broken or missing pieces. If you found a piece at home and it was from a toy hired from DPC, feel free to drop it off to us no matter how long it has been!
