Tomahawk Smaills BeachCare Trust

Tomahawk Smaills BeachCare Trust Coastal Ecology Restoration & Community Education TSBT started in 2000 with the aim of replenishing our local environment in the Tomahawk/Smaills area.

About Tomahawk Smaills Beachcare Trust (TSBT):

TSBT is a non-profit organisation thats aims to develop community supported environmental restoration education and awareness. Made up of trustee members, keen volunteers and community people who live mainly in the Tomahawk/Smaills Beach areas, as well as people from across Dunedin who appreciate these two beaches. replanting, dune stabilisation and

catchment care are key areas of focus. Since this time the trust has been active with dune clean ups, planting days, building a nursery and various community initiatives through liasion with key organisations such as Dunedin City Council (DCC), Otago Regional Council (ORC), Otago Peninsula Community Board, Department of Conservation (DoC), other coastal & community groups. Beachcare Nursery:

Tomahawk Smaills Beachcare Nursery is the hub of the Beachcare Trust. Completed in July 2007 the nursery is now in full production. Thousands of eco-sourced (locally occurring seed collection) native plants from the nursery have already been planted in the dunes. the nursery produces around 4000-5000 natives per year.
