It is painfully clear that we cannot leave the politics to the politicians, or the journalism to the media. We, the people of New Zealand, must awaken our inner potential and stand up for what is truly worthwhile. If we ignore the hard reality of today and stand idly by while New Zealand is implicated in the atrocities of the American Military-Industrial Complex, while our social and economic free
dom is sucked away by multinational corporate parasites, and while we land and water then our children and grandchildren will look to us with hurt and disgust. I tire of standing about twiddling my thumbs while this Government piddles all over our human rights and sells us out to greedy corporates. Despite what those with vested interests in this current absurd economic system will say, Occupy is not about bored dole-bludgers with a sense of entitlement. Occupy is a collective of individuals responding to a deep moral compulsion born from bitter searching of the heart. Occupy is about interrupting the wilful ignorance of this economic system and sparking some true civic debate. Suits may run past with their fingers in their ears, ignorant fools may dismiss us dirty hippies, but we will continue to utilize our human right – and social responsibility – to peacefully assemble and publicly protest.
