Tunnel Beach, Dinosaur Park, and Dawnspeakers — three things that are 'Only in Dunedin!' That’s the theme of our meeting this Tuesday, 28 July. You’re warmly invited to join us as we celebrate the special things that make our hometown unique, sharing stories of those classic Dunedin moments that help us speak with confidence from personal experience. If you’ve ever thought about visiting a Toastmasters club, this is a perfect morning to come along and see what we’re all about. Full meeting details are in the stickied post at the top of the page.

Sadly, Dawnspeakers has had to say a fond adieu to the man, the myth, the legend — Jamie Moran — as he heads off from Dunedin. Jamie has been a leader, a role model, and a steady presence for over 15 years, and he will be truly missed. At his final meeting, Jamie shared how his Toastmasters journey took him from a nervous first-time visitor to a confident, commanding speaker, complete with his trademark ability to deliver a dad‑joke on demand. Everyone grows in their own way, and we’re grateful that Jamie chose to make Dawnspeakers part of his story. Bon chance, Jamie, and thank you for everything. 👋

Ever caught yourself saying “I’m sorry!” in a speech… even when nothing went wrong? We’ve all done it, but most of the time, your audience didn’t notice anything until you apologised!
At Dawnspeakers, we encourage a different approach: skip the apology and find a more creative, engaging way to express your thought. It keeps your message strong and your confidence shining through.

This great Toastmasters Magazine article shows how to do exactly that, with practical tips you can start using right away. And learning skills like these — through supportive peer feedback — is one of the many ways Toastmasters helps you grow as a presenter. If you’re ready to take the first step toward more confident public speaking, come visit Dawnspeakers this week. We’d love to welcome you.

How to stop apologizing for yourself in presentations and what to do instead.

This Tuesday 7 July, we’re stepping away from the page to explore the magic of reading. What makes it so appealing? Why does it fit winter evenings like a glove? At Toastmasters, even everyday habits become sparks for rich, energising conversation, and this week’s theme is no exception. Visitors always welcome.

Where did it all go wrong?
Andy took that question and ran with it in his Table Topic, a totally impromptu, off‑the‑cuff dive into how sport “lost the plot,” and he made it look effortless. If you’d love to have that same jump‑in-and-go confidence, whether you’re speaking on the spot or tackling a prepared speech, come and visit us at Dawnspeakers. We’re all about building real confidence, having a laugh, and cheering each other on. Take the leap, you might surprise yourself!
