OK peeps - if you haven't seen or heard, the government has given councils 3 months to look at amalgamation solutions. Have a read on the link attached to learn more about it. There are also public meetings being rolled out - tonight was a meeting in Pahiatua.
I'm looking to be at the Woodville meeting tomorrow night, have an appointment in Palmerston North on Wednesday afternoon but hope to get back in time for the Dannevirke meeting.

Ok peeps - here is a link to take part in an initiative for council to get some feedback/input into how money is spent by council. To be honest its a non threatening way of being able to look at how money can be prioritized to various aspects within council budget.

Personally, I hear and see concerns from the general public about not being consulted in decisions made - true in cases but reality is, how many of us actually engage in discussions leading up to decisions being made. Certainly, lots of people react after decisions are made and seen to be made public.

This engagement from Council is a new way to try and get more input... I've just started watching video footage of council meetings, and to be honest I did question when were community members made aware of various issues being discussed? Initial thoughts were we weren't or aren't - truth is though I didn't look or engage prior.

Is that the case with many of our community members? Anyway - have a go at the Council - Budget Challenge.

This is one of the main reasons I am standing for the Tararua Council. The whakapapa and legacy of whānau that is here in Dannevirke and our region drives passion and desire to see our communities thrive!
Our tupuna/ older generations didn't endure hardships for us to sit back and complain about things we think we are hard done by. I have made it clear, I am passionate about serving our people and our communities with passion and conviction - I am determined to do the hard mahi, encourage robust discussions, and make sure the best decisions are sought and made for the betterment of our region.
This is the final week for voting - If you have already cast your votes, excellent and thank you. If you have ticked "Mr Scott" thank you very much! If you have voted "YES" to retain Māori Wards, thank you also for contributing towards a decision to support making our community representation stronger.
If you haven't or you know of others who haven't - please encourage them to do so. If you feel there should be change on Council - this week is your final chance to have your say by voting the representative(s), you feel confident will deliver for you!

Was a great night at Pongaroa last night - excellent questions which I hope you all got the answers you wanted to hear - loud and clear was the fact that Actions Speak Louder Than Words!! If you want change at The Council Table nows your chance to put your words into action - choose a Super Team of Representatives that will collectively build our District and Communities.

If you are on the General Roll - Vote Mr Scott and choose 3 great candidates for me to work with for you! Trust that I will make things happen with this Team. Choose a Mayor that will work and lead the Team effectively. And Vote "YES" to retain The Māori Ward. It's not a divisive move - its a movement of strengthening our Community by having a guaranteed voice for a valued and treasured sector of our community - Just like the North Ward and South Ward have 4 seats, each brings a representation specific and unique to their communities - so too does the Māori Ward for our Māori Community.

From today onwards voting papers will start arriving in letterboxes and you can start casting your votes. There are still public meetings to be held where you can get along and learn more from each candidate as well. Be sure in your mind who you will put your tick for.

Campaigning is ramping up... there are several important things coming through loud and clear...

1. Public meetings have been great occasions for our community and candidates to get to know one another. Listening to concerns and issues from our community - listening to responses from candidates is helping formulate who are best to represent our community on Council.
2. The importance of all to be enrolled and to vote... encourage all of your whānau and friends to check and be enrolled.
3. Vote YES to RETAIN MĀORI WARDS. Its not a divisive movement - its strengthening our diverse community.
4. Definitely need to lobby Central Government more to change and our Tararua District to stand strong and forge our own decision making.

For me the need for our community to select a Super Team of representatives is paramount. This Team needs to be resolute in strength to listen to the people and find solutions to make the best decisions to move our District forward.

There are some exciting options for you to choose from to form this Super Team. One thing is for sure... there will be at least one new councilor this next term... get along to the meetings so you can hear from each candidate to help you formulate your choice of who to vote for.
