In collaboration with Tararua Community Youth Services, We're hosting a Rangatahi Enrolment Event with plenty happening for the whole whānau!

The 2026 General Election is coming up — first things first, are you enrolled and are your details up to date?

Not sure if you’re enrolled? Moved house recently? Need to update your details?

You can check your enrolment, enrol or update your details online here:

You can also freephone 0800 36 76 56 or free text your name and address to 3676 to have an enrolment form sent to you.

🚨 Final enrolment deadline: midnight Sunday 25 October

TE KAHU HĒTERI-Ā-NUKU | MEET IZZY LAWSON

Ko Moumoukai te maunga
Ko Nuhaka te awa
Ko Takitimu te waka
Ko Ngāti Kahungunu te iwi
Ko Tāne-nui-a-Rangi te marae
Ko Izzy tōku ingoa.

Meet Izzy Lawson, our Hēteri-ā-Nuku Cadet based here at Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua. 🌱

Izzy joins the latest cohort of Hēteri-ā-Nuku, a one-year, work-based kaupapa established by Ngā Whenua Rāhui and Te Papa Atawhai – Department of Conservation. The programme supports the next generation of kaitiaki o te taiao to build skills, gain real hands-on experience and contribute to conservation kaupapa within their own rohe.

Since its establishment in 2020, Hēteri-ā-Nuku has supported 88 kaitiaki to upskill and work towards their aspirations for te taiao. Kaitiaki have gone on to careers across conservation, iwi organisations, councils and environmental teams throughout Aotearoa, while others have continued their studies or created opportunities of their own within the taiao sector.

For Izzy, this mahi aligns closely with her own passion for keeping our whenua clean and protecting our native wildlife from invasive pests. Through her cadetship, she is developing practical conservation skills and experience while exploring future pathways in conservation, pest control and other outdoor environmental mahi. 🐦🌿

But Hēteri-ā-Nuku is about more than developing individual skills. Grounded in tikanga Māori, whakapapa and kaitiakitanga, the knowledge and confidence gained by each kaitiaki flows back into their whānau, hapū and communities — strengthening the people who care for our whenua and indigenous biodiversity.

And when Izzy isn't out contributing to the taiao, you might find her playing the ukulele, gaming or heading out for a walk. 🎶🎮🚶‍♀️

We’re excited to have Izzy working alongside our team and to follow her journey as she grows her skills, knowledge and experience as one of the next generation of kaitiaki.

🌭 LOOKING BACK AT TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI 🌭

Last week, as part of our Te Wiki o te Reo Māori celebrations, we visited Huia Range School!

There was just one catch — if you wanted a sausage, you had to ask for it i te reo Māori! 🗣️🌭

He mihi nui ki ngā tauira me ngā kaimahi o Huia Range School for getting amongst it, giving the reo a go and helping us celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

A huge mihi to the organisations supporting our Mahuru Māori kaupapa — Tararua Community Services Tararua REAP Tararua Community Youth Services 💚

Although Te Wiki o te Reo Māori has finished, our Mahuru Māori celebrations are still going! Keep an eye out for our Kimi Kīanga Phrase Hunt 🔎 and the Kaimahi Kahoot workplace challenge 🧠 happening throughout the month.
