After an incredible response and some very tough judging decisions, our judges have selected the Top 3 finalists who will perform LIVE at the Matariki Manako Nui Festival!

Kia ora e te whānau 🎣

Due to the recent date change, we now have spots available for our upcoming Father & Son Fishing Camp at Ākitio Beach — 17–19 July 2026.

This camp is all about bringing generations together, passing on practical fishing skills, and sharing mātauranga of the moana 🌊

Over the three days, participants will learn:

• How to read tides, moon and sea conditions
• Water safety and looking after each other on the coast
• Gear needed for surf casting
• How to tie knots, bait hooks and cast properly
• How to catch fish and prepare it to feed your whānau
• Plus games, activities and plenty of laughs along the way 😄

We will be taking 10 adults and 10 rangatahi, so numbers are limited.

Ngā Whetū Tīaho is proud to welcome Karshara Matenga to our judging panel! ✨

A proud mother of three and long-time member of the Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua community, Karshara brings a strong passion for performance, culture, and community connection. With a background in kapa haka, singing competitions, backing vocals, and musical theatre, she knows the power performance has to tell stories and bring people together. 🎶

Karshara has been recognised for her stage presence and talent, winning both First Place and People’s Choice at Ruahine *Stars in Their Eyes*, and most recently appearing in *Disenchanted* with Fountain Theatre.

Karshara is excited to see performers embrace who they are, celebrate their culture, and let their wairua shine on stage this Matariki. ⭐

Wrap up warm, gather the whānau, and come along for two magical winter evenings at the Dannevirke Lower Domain as we celebrate Matariki together. 💚

The Tūrama Matariki Light Trail will bring light, colour, and a little bit of winter magic to Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua — a beautiful opportunity for our whānau, tamariki, and community to enjoy the season and spend time together.

📅 Dates: Tuesday 16 & Wednesday 17 June 2026
⏰ Time: 5.30pm – 8.30pm

Ngā Whetū Tīaho is proud to welcome Pete Sinclair to our judging panel! ✨

Pete is a lifelong Dannevirke local who has dedicated much of his time to both community service and the performing arts. As President of the Dannevirke Theatre Company and Chief Fire Officer of the Dannevirke Fire Brigade, Pete brings leadership, passion, and a deep connection to the community.

With a background in music and musical theatre dating back to age 13, Pete has spent decades performing in bands and taking part in countless stage productions. 🎭🎹

Pete is especially excited to see local talent step into the spotlight and showcase the incredible creativity within our community. ⭐
