About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day administration and financial operations of the Tararua Breeding Centre. The role works closely with the Centre Manager (Technical), veterinary teams, farm and laboratory staff, and external stakeholders.
This is a hands‑on role that blends leadership, administration, compliance, and client service. You will support the centre’s people, processes, and performance, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and regulators. From accounts and reporting through to MPI compliance, audits, and occasional laboratory or farm support, this role offers variety and responsibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting the centre team to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused service
- Managing accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, and monthly reporting
- Overseeing administration, data collation, and operational reporting
- Ensuring MPI compliance, audits, registrations, and documentation standards
- Supporting animal health programmes and assisting in lab or farm activities when required
- Maintaining health & safety, training, and continuous improvement initiatives
About you:
You’ll be an organised, self‑motivated professional with strong administrative and people leadership skills. Ideally, you’ll bring experience from the animal health, agricultural, or veterinary sector. You will be comfortable juggling multiple priorities, working with detail and accuracy, and dealing confidently with clients and stakeholders.
You’ll also bring:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational, time‑management, and problem‑solving ability
High integrity, initiative, and a positive, team‑focused mindset
Confidence using Microsoft Office, data systems, and ideally veterinary software
