🍎🍇 Harvest season is almost here, Cromwell! 🍇🍎

Over the coming weeks, our wee town is going to get a whole lot busier as workers arrive in the area for the harvest season. It’s an exciting time for our community, but it also means a few changes to our usual routines.

A little reminder to all of us:

🚗 Be patient on the roads – there will be more vehicles around, including people who may be unfamiliar with our roads and local area. Take your time, leave a little extra space and keep an eye out for pedestrians and cyclists.

🛒 Expect a few longer queues – our supermarkets and local businesses will be busier than usual, so a little extra patience and kindness can go a long way.

🏠 Keep your homes and vehicles secure – as always, remember to lock your doors and cars, secure valuables and take sensible precautions both during the day and overnight.

Most importantly, let’s give our seasonal workers a warm Cromwell welcome and remember that they are here to work hard and contribute to our community during one of the busiest times of the year. 💚

👶✨ Calling all whānau with new pēpi! ✨👶

Are you looking for a welcoming, supportive space to connect with other parents while navigating the beautiful journey of your baby's first year?
Join Central Otago REAP for our upcoming Pēpi Me Te Mātua (Baby & You) six-week course!

💡 What to expect:
• Connect & Support: Meet local mums and dads, share experiences, and build your village.
• Expert Guest Speakers: Learn about feeding support, maternal wellbeing, safe travel options, naturopathy, sustainable parenting choices, and budgeting.
• Friendly Atmosphere: A relaxed space to focus on newborn and child development.

• Who: Parents and babies aged 0–12 months
• When: 6 weeks on Fridays, starting 30 October | 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
• Where: Central Otago REAP Rooms, 19 Molyneux Ave, Cromwell
• Cost: $10 per whānau for the full 6-week programme (If cost is a barrier, please don't hesitate to reach out! We want this to be accessible to everyone.)

🐾 SPCA Drop-In Centre is here for you and your pets! 🐾

Do you need a little extra support keeping your furry family members healthy and happy? The SPCA Drop-In Centre runs at the Alexandra Community House (14/20 Centennial Ave) to provide essential services and support for our community.

Come down to access:
• CARE: Reduced-cost flea and worm treatments to keep your pets healthy.
• ADVICE: Expert animal care tips to help your pets live their best lives.
• SUPPLIES: Emergency pet food and supplies available for those who need a helping hand.

🌏 SHAKEOUT 2026 – ARE YOU READY?

On Wednesday 21 October at 1:30pm, New Zealanders across the country will take part in ShakeOut,our national earthquake drill!

Cromwell Community House is encouraging our local community to get involved. 🏠🤝

It only takes 60 seconds to practise the actions that could help keep you and your whānau safe during an earthquake:

⬇️ DROP to the ground
🛡️ COVER your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk
✋ HOLD on until the shaking stops

ShakeOut is a great opportunity to practise what you would do in a real emergency and talk with your family, workplace, school or community group about being prepared.

If you are in a tsunami evacuation zone, you can also practise your tsunami hīkoi (evacuation walk).

KiwiHomeHarvest has THREE different veggie planter models available, so you can suss out which one is best for your household and deck/garden.
🥬 Maybe you need a lower planter that children can easily reach?
🥬 Or a raised option that reduces bending?

We've designed the planters to make growing food at home more achievable for as many people as possible!

🌱 Your Garden. Your Food. Your Community.

What if a broken bike wheel, an old shopping trolley, a plastic drum or even an end-of-life ski could be transformed into something that helps grow fresh food for your family?

That’s exactly what KiwiHomeHarvest is doing.

KiwiHarvest is giving 80–100 households across Queenstown, Wānaka and Cromwell everything they need to start growing fresh food at home, completely free for successful participants.

And you don’t need to be a gardening expert.

What you'll receive:

• A modular, self-watering home growing system
• Around 95% rescued, reused or upcycled materials
• Compost
• Starter seedlings
• Frost protection
• Practical growing information
• Access to an experienced local gardening mentor
• Six months of support to help you get growing

There are different garden designs to suit different homes and needs, including smaller spaces and raised gardens. They’re modular and transportable too, so even if you rent or move house, your garden can move with you.

And this isn’t just about growing vegetables.

It’s about growing skills, reducing waste, making fresh food more accessible and helping our communities become more food secure.

Imagine picking fresh lettuce, herbs or vegetables from your own garden and having them from planter to plate within minutes.

No previous gardening or DIY experience is needed.

Join us for a relaxed and welcoming New to Cromwell Wellbeing Workshop on Thursday 24 September, 6pm–8pm at Cromwell Presbyterian Church (10 Elspeth Street).

Come along to discover local groups, activities, services and opportunities, meet others, ask questions and find out what our community has to offer. 💚

The workshop will be facilitated by Lana Van Lierop from Work It Well, who will share practical strategies and knowledge around wellbeing and connection.
