πŸ’™ Happy National Volunteer Week! πŸ’™

This week, we're celebrating the incredible people who make our community stronger, kinder, and more connected every single day, our volunteers.

From delivering meals and providing transport, to supporting families, helping at community events, assisting with Kai Connect, and lending a hand wherever it's needed, our volunteers give their time, energy, and compassion to make a real difference in the lives of others.

Every conversation, every ride, every helping hand and every act of kindness matters. Together, our volunteers create a community where people feel supported, welcomed, and cared for.

To all of our volunteers, thank you. Thank you for showing up, for caring, and for making Cromwell such a wonderful place to live.

Now is a great time to think about what you’re carrying in your vehicle if bad weather hits as you're travelling.
If you’re heading out in icy or snowy conditions, carry warm clothes, water, and food in case you get stuck or need to wait for the weather to improve.
As winter weather grows more severe your travel may be disrupted by intense periods of heavy rain, ice, and snow.
It's a good idea to carry supplies such as a coat, warm clothes such as a hoody or sweater and sweatpants, and food such as muesli bars or protein bars, nuts, some comfort snacks such as potato chips or lollies, and water and a sports drink.
That's just a starting point – you'll have other essentials you know you personally need that you should add in.
You should also make sure you have at least half a tank of fuel or battery range in case you encounter detours or diversions.
When the weather is bad, always check our page to see if state highways are affected before you travel. Follow us if you aren’t already.

❄️ Winter Wellbeing in Cromwell ❄️

Winter in Central Otago can be beautiful, but let's be honest – the inversion layers, fog, rain, grey skies, and bitterly cold mornings can take a toll on our wellbeing.

As the days get shorter and many of us spend more time indoors, it's important to take extra care of ourselves and those around us.

πŸ’› A few simple ways to support your wellbeing this winter:

β˜€οΈ Make the most of sunlight when it appears – even a short walk during daylight hours can boost mood and energy levels.

🚢 Keep moving – whether it's a walk around the block, a swim, gardening, or a community activity, movement can help combat the winter blues.

β˜• Stay connected – catching up with a friend for a coffee, attending a local group, or simply checking in on a neighbour can make a big difference.

πŸ₯£ Nourish your body – warm meals, regular hydration, and good sleep habits all contribute to better physical and mental health.

🏠 Keep your home warm and dry where possible – cold and damp homes can affect both physical and emotional wellbeing.

πŸ“± Reach out if you're struggling – it's okay to ask for support. You don't have to face a difficult winter alone.

Remember, winter can be harder for some members of our community, particularly older adults, people living alone, new residents, and those facing financial pressures. A simple phone call, text, or doorstep check-in could brighten someone's day.

Let's look out for one another and help make Cromwell a warm and connected community this winter. πŸ’š

❄️πŸ§₯ Our Winter Warmth Initiative is Now Underway! πŸ§₯❄️

As winter settles in across Central Otago, we know that for some members of our community, staying warm can be a real challenge.

That's why local resident Katie Lindsay and the team at Cromwell Community House have come together to launch a Winter Warmth Initiative, providing free warm clothing and blankets to those who need them most.

We are incredibly grateful to share that the first load of winter clothing and blankets has now arrived at Cromwell Community House, and the initiative is officially underway.

A huge thank you to the generous members of our community who have already donated. Your kindness will help ensure local individuals and families can stay warm during the colder months ahead. πŸ’™

If you or someone you know could benefit from warm clothing, blankets, beanies, gloves, jackets, or jumpers, please feel welcome to visit Cromwell Community House during our opening hours. All items are available free of charge and everyone is welcome.

We are also continuing to accept donations of clean, good-quality winter clothing and blankets, with men's winter clothing particularly needed.

πŸ“ Donations can be dropped off at Cromwell Community House, Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm.

πŸ“ž Anyone wishing to donate items or support the initiative through volunteering, sponsorship, or practical assistance can contact Katie Lindsay on 021 112 7811.

Together, we're showing what makes our community so special, looking after one another and making sure nobody is left out in the cold this winter.

Thank you, Cromwell, for your incredible generosity. ❀️
