Thank you to all our volunteers this morning who did a stunning job using our planting techniques. We use the below list for success. In these harsh Central Otago conditions it's important.
Step 1: Make the planting hole space bigger after getting a head start with the pre augered hole. So many big stones to navigate at this site. So not always easy!!
Step 2: Mix in a scoop of sheep pellet and compost mix to the bottom of the hole to give the plant a good start.
Step 3: Plant the plant, making sure it's not proud, and slightly below the dirt line so water can get in.
Step 4: Putting pea sized stone mulch around the plant to keep the weeds from growing, and for water to drain through.
Step 4: Place a pre made cage with windcloth and anchor it with 3 metal pins. This is secure it from wind and dog or human visitors which may bump the cage.
Give it a water.
What a sucessful foggy morning with 130 plants in the ground, followed by a bit of social banter and cuppa. Great community support helping the dedicated trustees.
