Last Friday some of our participants were lucky enough to attend a pottery class at Driving Creek Pottery, where they learned how to create their own gorgeous bowls. ☀

Te Mana Tangata runs casual groups each day, bringing people together to explore different creative activities and get together in a safe, supportive space. This Monday we're hosting 'Mosaic Monday', where participants can begin their own mosaic projects with support from our kaimahi.

Te Mana Tangata is open to anyone in the community with a valid MSD client number.

Thank you Driving Creek for allowing us to take part in this special opportunity! 🌿

Te Mana Tangata's Christmas Party 2026! ✨

Last month on the 19th of December, our participants enjoyed a special end of year party to celebrate all of their amazing work in 2025. Despite the weather, our team managed to get a few games of bowls in, have an amazing lunch and enjoy some gift giving and prizes. This day was made possible by everyone who purchased items at our fundraiser sale and all of the incredible local businesses below that donated goods/prizes for our participants.

Te Mana Tangata's Bake Sale Fundraiser! ✨

On November 14th, our Te Mana Tangata team put on a morning fundraiser with heaps of baked goods and a sausage sizzle to help raise money for their end-of-year celebration. Our community absolutely showed up—all the baking sold out within the first hour and the team raised over $500!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to support, and an extra big shout-out to the absolutely incredible local businesses who kindly donated items to make our celebration

Today a few of our Te Mana Tangata participants were lucky enough to attend an Ipu Ki Te Whenua workshop at Driving Creek, where they learned to create clay vessels designed to hold placenta or ashes that are then returned to Papatūānuku. 🌿

These ipu hold deep cultural significance, symbolising the profound spiritual and physical bond between Māori, their ancestors, and the land. Traditionally, the act of returning the whenua (placenta) or ashes to the earth honours the natural cycle of life, connecting us to our whakapapa and reminding us that all life both begins and returns to Papatūānuku.

This was an incredible and meaningful opportunity provided to us by the wonderful team at Driving Creek. We’re so grateful for the chance to take part in something so special.

Our mural is finally up on the Te Mana Tangata building. 🌿

This breathtaking mural has been a massive project, incorporating elements from participant paintings inspired by Coromandel. This mural has been in the works since the beginning of 2024, with hours of painting, planning and collaboration going into its creation.

Te Mana Tangata would like to give a very special thanks to artist Caitlin Moloney for her incredible dedication and artistry in bringing this vision to life. We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Coromandel ITM for kindly providing the wood for the mural, and Hana Richardson from Whitianga Flooring Xtra for donating the paint used to create the design. Their generosity is what made this project possible.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge all of our participants, including those not pictured, for their hard work and creativity throughout this process.

If you find yourself driving down Pound Street, be sure to stop and check out our amazing mural and the sensory garden surrounding it! 🎨

This morning, our crew had a special opportunity to visit six incredible studios taking part in the Open Studios Arts Tour. 🎨

We started at Elisabeth Carter’s home studio, then headed to Hauraki House to meet potter Matilda Halley and check out stunning local works.

At Blind Creek Art Studio, screen-printing legend Pete Sephton showed us his process and let us try our own hand at screen-printing cards. Next, we stopped by The Workshop to see creations by Kim and Kevin Brett and Charlene Scott.

We wrapped up at Gannet’s Nest, where Kay Ogilvie showed us her pottery studio and kiln alongside works by Iona Matheson—and finished our little tour at Paul Cornwall’s studio.

There are many more talented artists we couldn’t visit today, so make sure you get out and enjoy the Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour this weekend on its final weekend. Find our more about the tour here: https://www.coromandelartstour.co.nz/

There’s nothing like a warm meal to bring people together. 🍲

Today our support worker, Te Raana, prepared a delicious butter chicken as part of our new weekly menu. All of Te Mana Tangata's participants are provided with lunch every day—along with endless cups of coffee, tea, and Milo! ☕

Sharing kai together each day offers a chance to connect, strengthen relationships, and build a real sense of community.
