Tomorrow, Cape Coast Community Patrol will be present at the 9.30am Clive ANZAC Ceremony, joining Community Patrols of New Zealand - CPNZ volunteers across the country in standing alongside our communities and other service providers in remembrance.

On ANZAC Day, we pause to honour the courage, commitment, and selfless service of our servicemen and women - past and present - and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We also acknowledge the families and loved ones who have shared in that sacrifice.

There is something that stirs in people who choose to serve — whether defending a nation or simply showing up for their neighbours week after week. The scale and stakes are worlds apart, but the quiet impulse to give something of yourself for others is a thread worth recognising today.

To our servicemen and women, and to those who gave everything: your sacrifice is in a category of its own.

As we come together in reflection and respect, we remember their service, their dedication, and the freedoms we continue to enjoy because of them.

Lest we forget. 🌿

⚠️ ALERT FOR LOCAL RETAILERS — CLIVE | WHAKATŪ| TE AWANGA ⚠️

Cape Coast Community Patrol has been advised by Eastern District Police that there is currently a rash of counterfeit $50 notes being used across the wider Hastings area.

💸 What to look for:
• These are very high quality forgeries. Unlike the genuine $50 shown, these notes do not have the security hologram in the transparent window. Train your staff to check this immediately when accepting a $50 note (or other values):
🔍 If you are offered a suspected counterfeit note:
• Do not accept it
• Note the exact time so CCTV footage can be identified and recovered
• Note a description of the person — clothing, age, build, distinguishing features
• Record any vehicle registration associated with the person
• Note their direction of travel

📞 If the offending is happening now or you have immediate information — call 111
📞 If it has already occurred — call 105 to make a report

Please share this post with other local business owners and ensure your staff are briefed today!

☁️ Kia ora Cape Coast community!

To those at home tonight — we hope you're making the most of this warm, wintery weather, rugging up and spending time with the people who matter most. 🧣☕ A gentle reminder to check in on your neighbours, especially those who are elderly, live alone, or may need a hand. A knock on the door or a quick text can go a long way.

To those who have been evacuated, we're thinking of you — we hope you're safe, comfortable, and able to return home as soon as possible. 🙏

CLCP has had extra volunteers out patrolling today, and we hope to have a patrol running tonight as well - subject to police authorisation - checking on vehicles and property across the Cape Coast area.

If you see or hear anything of concern that requires an immediate response, call 111. If you suspect something has already occurred, you can make a report by calling 105.

Stay cosy, stay safe. 💙

⚠️🚨 LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED – COASTAL AREAS OF CENTRAL HAWKE’S BAY, HASTINGS, AND NAPIER🚨 ⚠️

12:30pm SATURDAY 11.04.26

A local State of Emergency has been declared in Hawke’s Bay, specifically for coastal areas of Central Hawke’s Bay, Hastings, and Napier.

This declaration does NOT include the Wairoa District.

This will be in place for an initial period of seven days.

The emergency declaration was signed by Hawke’s Bay Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (HBCDEM) and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council chair Sophie Siers at 11.56am today.

The declaration gives Civil Defence Emergency Management controllers special emergency powers to respond to the impacts of Cyclone Vaianu. These powers include evacuating premises and places, which will start in targeted beachfront areas early this afternoon.

HBCDEM group controller Shane Briggs says it is critical residents heed police and Civil Defence instructions and messages.

“The most important thing is that everyone stays safe. For those outside of the evacuation areas, please make decisions based on the risk at your home. Self-evacuate if you feel at all unsafe. For those staying at home during the cyclone, stay off the roads and, as always, if there is a risk to life call 111 immediately,” Shane Briggs said.

The councils for each of the impacted coastal areas, supported by HBCDEM and Police, will coordinate the evacuations. They will be releasing public information following this declaration notice.

For the latest cyclone information, follow the HBCDEM website and page. For evacuation information follow your local council’s channels.

🌀⚠️ **WEATHER HEADS UP — Cyclone Vaianu**

Current models suggest we could see significant weather on Sunday afternoon — wind gusts up to 105km/h, rain, and large coastal swells. If safe, our volunteer patrollers will be out assisting with observations and traffic management where needed.

⏳️**Please take time this weekend to prepare:**
- Secure loose items outside
- Check supplies — water, torch, phone charge, medications
- Follow official guidance from HB Civil Defence Emergency Management Group, MetService New Zealand and other trusted sources.

🤝 Check on your neighbours, especially those who are elderly or living alone. If you know someone who might need a welfare check, contact us at [email protected] and we'll follow up.

Stay safe and look out for each other. 💪

As well as keeping an eye on the businesses and mobile property around Clive, Haumoana, Te Awanga, Tuki Valley, Mangateretere, Whakatū, Awatoto and Pākōwhai, Cape Coast Community Patrol always keeps a vigilant eye on our Community Clubs and Public Facilities, day and night when volunteer patrollers are available -- but we can't be everywhere.

Police are urging sports and community clubs across Hawke’s Bay to be vigilant following a number of burglaries targeting club premises.

Since February, Police have investigated nine burglaries at clubs across the region, with offenders causing damage and stealing items including cash, alcohol, and equipment.

While enquiries into these incidents are ongoing, Police are reminding clubs and community organisations to take proactive steps to reduce the risk of becoming a target.

If a burglary occurs, Police are urging clubs to report it immediately and avoid touching or disturbing the scene so Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) can attend and preserve forensic evidence where possible, says Detective Sergeant Andrew Boyd, supervisor of the Hawke's Bay Tactical Crime Unit.

“Clubs play a vital role in our communities, and we’re working closely with them to prevent further offending,” he says.

“Timely reporting and simple security measures can make a real difference.”

Anyone with information about these burglaries, or any suspicious activity, is encouraged to contact Police via 105, either by phone or online. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

🤝 It was great to meet business operators and their customers during tonight's foot patrol in the Clive & Cape Kidnappers Community retail areas.
👀 Later we also located a stolen vehicle which was immediately attended by New Zealand Police, observed our area for any signs of smoke or fire and suspicious behaviour, and then we patrolled Te Mata Park during the current high fire risk Park Closure.
