🎧 World Hearing Day – 3 March 2026 🎧
Each year on 3 March, organisations around the world come together for World Hearing Day, a global advocacy event led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about hearing health, promote ear and hearing care, and prevent avoidable hearing loss.
This year’s theme — “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children” — focuses on preventing childhood hearing loss and ensuring early identification and care, particularly through community and school-based Programmes.

This initiative highlights that millions of children worldwide experience undiagnosed or untreated hearing conditions that can affect language, learning and long-term development, and calls for integrated hearing care within existing child and school health services.
In today’s New Zealand Herald, national president Dr Lisa Seerup (President of Hearing NZ) emphasizes that hearing loss is “not just a problem for our aging population” and urges increased awareness, regular hearing checks, and better access to services for all ages. Her article underscores the importance of early identification and every New Zealander’s role in supporting hearing health — especially for tamariki and whānau.
