MORE PROMOTIONS 🎉

Following the recent promotions of several of our cadets to CDTLCPL and CDTCPL, we are thrilled to announce two more promotions amongst our Senior NCOs.

Congratulations to CDTSGT Kilday, who successfully completed the recent SNCO Course, and CDTSSGT Edwards. Both SNCOs have shown continued growth and leadership within the Unit, and their promotions are well deserved - congratulations team!

PROMOTIONS 🎉

Following some strong and dedicated in-unit performances, we are thrilled to welcome CDTLCPL Lilly, CDTLCPL Okraszewski and CDTLCPL Hogg to the NCO team.

We also congrate CDTCPL Tan and CDTCPL Edmondson on their recent promotions following their successful completion of their JNCO Course over the April school holidays.

📢📢WE'RE RECRUITING FOR 2026📢📢

CCCU provides a unique chance for teenagers to upskill in countless life skills including leadership, teamwork, first aid, navigation, fi****ms safety and bushcraft.

Our cadets get exposed to exciting training opportunities within the Unit, alongside other and NZDF units, and with other organisations within our community, and while becoming New Zealands successful leaders of tomorrow.

If you or someone you know is 13-15 years old and this sounds like you, come along to our OPEN NIGHT this Monday 🗓 to find out more!

It is with deep regret that we acknowledge the passing of LTCDR Owen Black, NZCF. Owen passed away on 4 February 2026 following a short illness.

Owen was a serving NZCF officer with a rich and proud history with CCCU. He was a long-serving officer of the Unit, culminating in his appointment as Unit Commander from 2011 to 2013. After moving away from Christchurch for work, Owen returned to CCCU in 2023 in a general staff role. Owen had very recently posted out of CCCU to commence his appointment as Area Support Officer for Canterbury.

Owen was a friend and mentor to many current and former members of CCCU and the NZCF, and his loss will be felt widely across the organisation.

Please join us in expressing our deep condolences to Owen’s family and colleagues during this period.

It's that time of year again!!! City of Christchurch Cadet Unit are open for prospective new recruits to come and visit us to see what we're all about. We have open nights on the 02FEB and 09FEB from 6pm until 9pm. If your child or ward is between the ages of 13 & 15 (sorry, the cut off is 15) and is interested then please feel free to come and visit us at 43 Corsair Drive in Wigram. See you there!!

Drill practice is well underway for our End of Year Parade and Prizegiving for 2025 🏆 The Parade is being held next Monday, 1 December.

Parents, friends, whanau and supporters are all invited to attend - we would love to see you there!

EXERCISE VANGUARD 2025

Over 31Oct-2Nov, cadets participated in Ex Vanguard at West Melton Rifle Range. Vanguard is our end of year field exercise, and during the weekend cadets tested their:

🗺 navigation skills
🚑 first aid
🔭 observation and information gathering
🏕 campsite selection
📻 radio telephone procedures
🍳 field cooking skills
🙈 camouflage and concealment

and various other knowledge and skills they've developed at cadets. Congratulations to all who participated!

Vanguard also counts towards our platoon competition, so watch this space for the top platoon in 2025 🏆🏆
