It's so cool to see the jetty being used to start a day of adventure for the children staying at Cholmondeley 😍

Ooo aarrr, it’s Pirate Day at Cholmondeley!

And what a day for it. The sun is shining, the sea is still, and the treasure awaits...

Our young pirates have been picked up from the Governors Bay jetty and are on their way to solve riddles, spot wildlife and explore the harbour before heading to Quail Island.

A huge thank you to everyone who made today possible, including Sabrina, Alex, Phil and the team at Naval Point Club Lyttelton, Kevin and Jet Junkies NZ and Black Cat Cruises, along with all the incredible volunteers giving their time to create such a special experience for our children.

We’ll keep you updated with how much loot is collected.

If you own a pizza oven, smoker, or log burner and you are after oak chunks (and want to help pay for the jetty - the loan still needs paying), read on!

Our latest fundraiser is selling bags of oak chunks - approx. 20kg, bags are 90cm tall and 50cm wide. $50 per bag.

Free pick-up in Governors Bay.

Home grown in Governors Bay - two old oak tree were felled more than a year ago. They were donated to the jetty trust to sell as a fundraiser.
We split the wood into 30cm x 10cm chunks, for use in pizza ovens and smokers.

Oak is considered a premier wood for pizza ovens and smokers because of its high density, which provides long-lasting, consistent, and intense heat with minimal smoke. It adds a mild, earthy, and non-overpowering smoky flavor to meats, beef, and pizza.

You can buy via our website: https://www.savethejetty.org/buy-something/oak-chunks. Or email [email protected] or message us.

If you've never seen this before, the rebuild of the jetty time-lapse is a great watch. Nine months condensed into 2 minutes.

Oak firewood for pizza ovens (and the like): $50 per bag.

The jetty was gifted an oak tree that was felled over a year ago. We held firewood-splitting working bees late last year and the wood has been drying since then. Random moisture testing shows it's less than 25% so we've bagged it and it's available for sale.

We've cut them small enough for home pizza ovens. They are approx. 30cm long and 10cm wide.

$50 per bag - the bags are 90cm tall by 50cm wide. They are heavy (approx. 20 to 25kg).

Pick up in Governors Bay.

If you are interested in buying some, please message us or email [email protected].

The weather was fabulous for today's picnic on the jetty for jetty trust members.

There was an egg and spoon race, a competition to build the highest tower out of jetty blocks, a plaque-search anagram activity (the word was DOLPHIN), and a jetty haiku competition. Prizes were very chocolatey and a lovely family won a box of jetty wooden blocks.

We have 3 events each year for jetty members, bringing people together, and having fun. Members will be the heart and soul of the boat house project.

We welcome new members too: https://www.savethejetty.org/members. $20 for an adult, $10 for a senior or student, and $30 for a family.

Today, Prue and Louisa attended the Banks Peninsula Community Board meeting to give an update on the boat house project. They dressed for the occasion, paddles included!

The vision is for this facility to be a hub for blue space recreation (small water craft, like kayaks) - the blue Hagley Park.

We thank the community board for their warm welcome and for listening. You can watch the live stream of the presentation here: https://youtu.be/XsrhdUGxwt4?t=1040

Good morning all.

A trampoline has been left on the end of the jetty. Could the owner please remove it, so we don't have to?

We don't want anyone to get injured either by using it to jump off the jetty or getting hit by a flying trampoline - it gets windy down there.

Thanks from the jetty crew

Wishing you all a Happy Jetty Christmas!.

It's so good to see everyone enjoying the jetty on this beautiful day. Lots of swimming, jetty jumping, and happy dogs.

The photo is a throwback to a Christmas past, when the jetty was still broken.

Stay safe and we'll see you in 2026!

Lovely article in the ODT today (via our local Bay Harbour News). It's actually 727 planks sponsored (not 787). That's still a lot of awesome sponsors who helped pay for the rebuild 🀩

All 787 planks on the restored Governors Bay jetty have now been sponsored, marking the end of an eight-year fundraising campaign. Said Jetty...

Eight years and 727 planks later, all of the standard planks on the jetty are now sponsored!!
Huge thanks to everyone who sponsored a plank - we couldn't have rebuilt the jetty without you! The sponsor a plank campaign raised over $300,000.
We will order the last 16 plaques and get them on the jetty soon.
The jetty trust still owes $265,000 on the community loan it took out to pay for the rebuild and there are still "front planks" to be sponsored. Front planks are mainly aimed at businesses and includes a logo (in black), but anyone can sponsor a front plank for $2000. https://www.savethejetty.org/sponsor-a-first-75-front-plank
And there are 47 "wedding planks" on the end platform, designated for anyone who got (or gets) married on the jetty.
I can't quite believe we have reached the end of this fundraiser! We've connected with so many amazing jetty supporters along the way. There are many meaningful messages on the plaques, making them a special feature of the jetty. Remembrance of those who have passed, stories of jetty escapades, and messages to our future generations.
