It has to be done…

Though they’d much sooner we didn’t, Impact100 Canterbury simply wouldn’t be here without our unflappable (and, might we add, beautifully colour-coordinated) co-founders – so this post is a tribute where it’s due.

Lynne and Jane have poured hundreds of hours (and emails) into launching this chapter, rallying members, organising our events, and generally keeping both the movement and morale humming.

This first grant cycle is a testament to their vision, and we feel very privileged to carry it forward. ❤️

Thank you, Lynne and Jane!

Hard to top this line-up 🙌

At our inaugural Grant Award Breakfast on Wednesday, we were lucky enough to hear from four outstanding wāhine in a panel discussion led by newly appointed Impact100 Canterbury Ambassador Nicola Toki.🥳

Resplendent in green and zebra, Nicola brought her signature wit and warmth as panel facilitator, steering the kōrero and audience with ease (no surprise after more than a decade on radio).

Karen Hattaway, founder of Manu Restaurant, shared some deeply moving insights on women reclaiming their agency and power through philanthropy. 🤲

Gabrielle Boyd, HR Manager at Mike Greer Group, talked about her experience with Impact100 Whakatipu and how organisations can support and amplify collective giving. 📣

And Rebecca Inch, double-degree student and Project Coordinator at Seed the Change, offered her perspective on sponsored membership and broadening diversity in philanthropy...briefly holding the room to ransom (in the best possible way) 👊

Thank you all for your fabulous insights, honesty and willingness to share your kaupapa with us. If the electricity in the room afterwards was anything to go by, the panel was a clear highlight. ✨

This week, 75 local wāhine (and a handful of supportive gents) gathered to mark the very first Impact100 grant in Canterbury. 🎉

The morning was clear and crisp, the guests plentiful, the breakfast bountiful, and the scene quintessentially stylish thanks to The George Christchurch. ✨☕

Each of our three finalists pitched their proposals with impressive vim, creating the best kind of dilemma for Impact100 Canterbury members when it came time to vote.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe to Aviva, One Mother to Another, and Hoa Motuhake for the time, energy, and commitment it took to pull your pitches together, and for everything you do for our community. 🤲

Hoa Motuhake was voted this year's major grant recipient, with $27,000 awarded to support an additional 30 at-risk tamariki through mentoring and structured sports participation. 🏀💙

Aviva and One Mother to Another each received grants of $2,500 to support their mahi this year. 💐👏

To everyone who attended, spoke, or celebrated from afar, thank you. We're especially grateful to have you alongside us as we begin this next chapter.

A special shoutout to our major sponsor, JBWere; our friends at Kura Tāwhiti - Canterbury Community Foundation; and The George for their warm hospitality.

Show some aroha to each of our finalists by giving them a follow, and donate if you can to support their vital mahi:

Every Kiwi kid should have the opportunity to participate in sport. ⚽

For many young Cantabrians, Hoa Motuhake is making that possible, regardless of their circumstances.

Through its flagship programme, Te Pou o Te Whare, Hoa Motuhake provides five years of consistent, relationship-based support, pairing each child with a trained volunteer sports mentor and connecting them with safe, inclusive community sport. 💙

With more than 60 tamariki currently on the waitlist, an Impact100 grant would enable a step-change expansion: supporting 30 additional tamariki over two years, providing more than 3,000 hours of mentoring and structured sport participation, and embedding trauma-informed practice across more clubs and communities in Waitaha Canterbury.

A highly effective charity tackling the needs of our community today and for generations to come. 👣

Thank you, Hoa Motuhake Sports Trust! We can't wait to gather at the Award Breakfast next week for the final pitches and plenty of community aroha.

Only a few tickets remaining, so if you'd like to join us for the event, now's your chance! Secure your spot here: https://events.humanitix.com/impact100-canterbury-award-breakfast

Volunteers are the heart and soul of One Mother to Another. ❤️

With 170 dedicated volunteers, the organisation is on track to deliver 8,000 thoughtfully curated care packages to mothers and families with hospitalised tamariki in 2026.

However, there is work to be done to sustain and grow this impact.

One Mother to Another seeks funding from Impact100 Canterbury to formalise volunteer roles, strengthen training and support volunteer-led coordination. This investment will build the resilient infrastructure needed to ensure more wāhine, tamariki, and whānau feel supported when it matters most. 🤲

A deeply impactful charity making a lasting difference for families across our community.

Thank you, From One Mother To Another! We look forward to seeing you at next week's Award Breakfast for the final pitches and to celebrating your indomitable spirit. 🥂

Sexual violence is widespread in Aotearoa.

Aviva wants to eradicate it.

In recent years, they have developed the Stop It campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness Month — encouraging people to be an upstander, not a bystander, and to speak up when they see concerning behaviour. 📢

Their proposal would use the Impact100 $26K grant to amplify the campaign’s profile and impact through dedicated coordination, community partnerships and system-level intervention measures.

A highly impactful charity that serves our community’s most critical needs. 👏

Thank you, Aviva! See you at the Award Breakfast next week for final pitches and plenty of community aroha. 💛

It is our absolute delight and privilege to announce the finalists for Impact100 Canterbury’s very first grant cycle!! 🎉

Our committee members were floored by both the number and calibre of applications from organisations showing up every day for women and families across the rohe. Narrowing it down to just three was a difficult (though happy) problem to have.

Please join us in a round of applause for our 2026 finalists:

✨ Aviva
✨ Hoa Motuhake Sports Trust
✨ One Mother to Another

Ka pai tō mahi to every charity that submitted an expression of interest this round. We know how much time, care and energy goes into applications like these, and how tightly stretched the funding environment can be. We appreciate the commitment of each and every one of you, and the difference you continue to make in the lives of Cantabrians. ❤️

Keep your eyes peeled for further details about our finalists, and if you haven’t booked your seat at our Grant Award Breakfast next week...well, what are you doing? 😉

Canterbury wāhine - this one's for you!

Our inaugural Grant Award Breakfast is around the corner, and we'd love for you to be there.

Come along to The George for coffee and kai, bring a female friend for backup, and prepare to be (gently, inspiringly) blown away.

Three local charities will share how they're making Waitaha Canterbury a safer, brighter and better place for women and families, before Impact100 Canterbury members vote to decide who'll receive the major $26K grant for 2026.

You'll also hear from self-described "nature nerd" and else-described "enthusiastic, inspiring and committed champion," Nicola Toki - a talented communicator, conservationist and impact ambassador in her own right.

Need we say more?

Book your seat today: https://events.humanitix.com/impact100-canterbury-award-breakfast ❤️

Thank you to JBWere for sponsoring this event, and to The George Hotel for hosting us.👏
