Talking about death and dying can feel hard, and it can be difficult to know where to begin.

During Dying Matters Week Aotearoa we wanted to help make those conversations a little easier. We’re pleased to share Seven days, seven conversations – a podcase series of short conversations exploring death, dying and palliative care from a range of perspectives.

Across the series, Grace and some of our team explore hospice care, caring for someone at home, being present when there are no easy answers, starting difficult conversations, palliative care in residential care, and how food and care can change near the end of life.

We hope this series encourages you to have your own conversations with the people who matter to you.

Note: These conversations are not intended as clinical advice.

For dying matters, we've released the seven days, seven conversations podcast series. A podcast about helping people talk more openly about death, dying and palliative care.

Nurse Maude welcomes the A Place to Grow Old report released this week and the way it highlights the future of aged care in New Zealand.

Nurse Maude CEO Louise Zacest says, “We are pleased to see the breadth of recommendations and the focus on ensuring we have an aged care system that can respond to the changing needs of New Zealanders.”

“Aged care can’t be somebody else's issue. We all have parents, grandparents, friends and whānau who will need support as they age – and one day we will need it ourselves.”

“As a provider of in home, nursing, residential care and palliative services, Nurse Maude agrees that there is a significant opportunity to better integrate services and funding to meet the growing needs of our communities.”

International Nurses Day is a moment to celebrate nurses and the difference they make for people, whānau and communities every day.

This year’s theme, Empowered Nurses Save Lives, speaks to the vital role nurses play in strengthening health systems and supporting the wellbeing of communities.

For Nurse Maude, this has been part of our story since Sibylla Maude first championed care in the home. Today, our nurses continue that legacy through skilled, compassionate care that supports people to stay well, return home safely, and remain connected to their communities.

To our nurses, thank you for the kindness, skill and dedication you bring every day. We are proud to celebrate you and the difference you make.
