When a country has no access to our Days for Girls kits, we sew, we create, we curate and distribute the kits within those countries.

When a country has a Days For Girls Enterprise, we send funds so that local women can sew, create, curate and distribute their own kits. We know local leaders are best positioned to drive sustainable, long-lasting change in their communities. DfG Social Enterprise Leaders are able to serve women, girls and people with periods in their countries while also earning an income. It’s a win-win system that uplifts and transforms communities from the inside out.

In collaboration with Days for Girls Nelson, Days for Girls Matamata and Days for Girls Ghana (Social Enterprise) we assisted with finance for the creation of 120 kits to be distributed via Choose Love - Ghana

As always, thanks for your big hearts in fundraising for our sisters-by-other-Misters around the world ###

Our first bee of the year! I was so busy helping supervise the packing of kits, I almost forgot to take photos!

The machine ladies knuckled down and whizzed through a vertiginous pile of liners. Adrienne ironed like a dervish. Marion wielded her blade and board against flannel. The rest of us folded, filled, packed and stacked 150 kits of our 200 kit order bound for the medical ship Sea Mercy (sailing to the outer Fiji Islands)

Machines hummed, banter abounded and Reetah ate far too many gummy snakes and liquorice allsorts 🙄

On Thursday we held our big annual fundraiser at Burwood Hospital. Tables and tables of festive deliciousness was for sale. The crowds ebbed and flowed and the tables emptied. There was fun, frivolity and festive carol singers that made Reetah emotional and her eyeballs leaky!

I took lots of photos but my computer and I have having a dispute on uploading them all at present...so here is a selection I have managed to get past my uncooperative tech!

HUGE appreciation to the squad who got on site early to set up and stayed to break down at the end of the day. Thanks too to everyone who stepped in when and where they could. We couldn't have done it without you. (((hugs))) Rx

Things may have been pretty quiet here on the socials recently but things behind the scenes have been FAR from quiet. We have been working hard towards our biggest fundraiser of the year. There has been all sorts of cooking, crafting, sewing, decorating and prettifying happening all over Canterbury.

The Days for Girls, Christmas Stall Extravaganza will be held in the Atrium at Burwood Hospital this Thursday 11 Dec from 9.00am until 3.30pm (or until everything sells out!!)

We will be selling a huge array of jam, marmalade, relish and cordials - all home made with heaping spoonfuls of festive love and affection. We will be reprising our very popular Christmas Cookie Jars, handmade soaps and bath salts, delicious fudge/coconut ice and selection of pretty aprons. There will be a huge array of extra crafty hand- made stocking stuffers and actual festive themed socks to stuff in stockings!. Of special mention are the one of a kind bespoke teddy bears - each wearing its own couture cardigan and designer name tag. Also, the utterly gorgeous bird feeders created from re-purposed bone china cups and saucers.

Come and let us help you feel good about the hand crafted, environmentally friendly, charity supporting gifts you give this Christmas! We will have full eftpos facilities. All proceeds go towards supporting the Christchurch Team of Days for Girls.

Ever since DfG ChCh was a fledgling team, Ngaire of Foster Hope Christchurch has been a staunch supporter of our work. She shares our philosophy of "need not greed" and passes on items excess to her organisations demands. Over the years she has contributed adult sized underwear, hotel soaps and fabric. She has also given me sage advice, support and love, from one team leader to another. Her relentless hard work and passion for the children and whānau she supports is being recognised and she is a finalist in this year's Westfield Local Heroes Award. Please lend your support and click on the vote button.

Cast your vote to award $30k worth of grants.

So, some of you may wonder what happens with the excess jars and bottles I can't use for our fundraising efforts? Well, anything that is too big, too small, odd shaped or unneeded is boxed up and taken to Katherine's Kitchen for her to use for the multitude of projects she curates and co-ordinates.

Katherine's page has been a font of knowledge to me as I have navigated my jam, sauce, chutney and relish fundraising journey. Her page is well worth a follow if you want to know how to deal with an excess of fruit or veges or are curious on the vagaries of bottling or preserving.

It's been even lovelier getting to spend time with her and other experts in the world of food preservation and recipe creation. Thanks ladies for an evening of laughter and learning ###

Jar club plus some that didn't want to be in the photo......fun laughter and supper its got yo be good for you.

Last weekend the Christchurch team caught up in a new classroom at St Andrews College whilst their usual science lab was "under renovations". Different space, but same great energy supplied by a superlative squad. A bazillion liners were joined, sewn, cut, edged and locked. Pockets were pressed. Components were folded, stuffed and packed for domestic kits.

Whilst Reetah forgot to add photographic evidence of either the afternoon tea, or herself...she can confirm she was present, as were liquorice allsorts and scones which were harmed over the duration of the bee :-)
