Today's Sabbath Day. ☀️

A gift of pause for each guest who comes through our doors, but also a gift to us at Sister Eveleen. We are continually grateful for the people who are sent here and for the privilege of offering a space to rest, reflect and pray.

Always a precious time. Even more so on a beautiful sunny day like today.

🌿Ministry with a View 🌿

Sister Eveleen Retreat House is looking for its first Contemplative Resident.

We are inviting expressions of interest for a 12-month Contemplative Residency and Retreat House Host, commencing early 2027.

This is an opportunity for intentional living, spiritual growth and service in our small Christian retreat house, run ecumenically, overlooking Pegasus Bay in Sumner, Christchurch.

The residency may suit someone:
🌿 discerning a new direction, vocation or ministry
🌿 between careers or life stages
🌿 writing, studying or semi-retired
🌿 exploring retreat ministry, chaplaincy or pastoral work
🌿 seeking a year of deeper spiritual engagement

Applicants should be Christian, mature, hospitable, self-motivated and comfortable living independently.

Expressions of interest close 5pm, Friday 23 October 2026.

Today we welcomed the 24/7 Youth Work Trust - Te Muka Rangatahi team to Sister Eveleen Retreat House for a staff day.

It was a priviledge to offer our space for reflection, connection, and renewal.
We wish the team every blessing as they continue their important work alongside young people and communities .

At the end of the Julian of Norwich retreat, our guests leave enriched by the silence, the accompaniment of daily spiritual direction, and the quiet community that forms along the way. Even in silence, people come to know one another.

Just a quick hello from us on the hill... 👋🏼

We are almost at the end of a rich week, accompanying a group of retreatants on a 7-day silent retreat exploring Julian of Norwich.

As always, it has been a privilege to offer hospitality and create space for prayer, silence, rest, and reflection. Of course, the house, chapel, gardens, and beautiful views have all played their part in this journey.

Thank you to Glenda Prosser for gently guiding our guests into this rhythm of silence and the wisdom of Julian, and so creating more room for God.
