Pioneer Volleyball Club is based in Christchurch, New Zealand. We have a long history of success in Competitive & Social Volleyball with a club full of players and staff that love the game. PVC 2026 Trials are just around the corner 👀
See our previous post for details of trial dates and times.

Please note a $20 trial entry fee applies, payable on the night prior to receiving your number.
Kindly ensure you are organised with proof of payment on arrival.

We encourage all athletes to arrive to their trial at least 20minutes early to show proof of payment to the organisers.
You will not receive your trial number until this has been confirmed.

We’re excited to announce our upcoming trials for the 2026 season. Whether you’re aiming to compete at senior level or develop your game, we’d love to see you there.

Senior Men’s Trials
• Monday 13 April – Trial 1
• Sunday 19 April – Trial 2

Senior Women’s Trials
• Wednesday 15 April – Trial 1
• Monday 20 April – Trial 2

Development Boys & Girls Trials (Year 10–13)
• Monday 30 March – Trial 1
• Friday 17 April – Trial 2 (6pm–8pm)

All other trials run 6:30pm–8:30pm

Introducing Lareiahna “Lala” de Leon-McGrath, our Panther Women’s libero who’s taking a short sideline stint after knee surgery. But don’t let the chair fool you - Lala is still the heart of the team.

She’s the ultimate cheerleader, motivator, analyst, and occasional referee (from the sidelines, of course).

Need a pep talk? She’s got it. Want a breakdown of the last play? She’s already on it.

Basically, she’s the only player who can simultaneously run the bench, critique the game, and hype the team so hard that opponents get intimidated without even stepping on the court.

The moral of the story? Never underestimate the power of Lala… even when she’s not on the court. 🤝🏽

Listed height? Let’s just say it’s “subject to debate”, but somehow he covers every inch of the court like a pro.

Isaac’s hype song of choice is ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele - because nothing gets him amped quite like a heartfelt ballad.

Say hello to Polly Dowling, our Panthers Women’s A setter and part-time floor inspector.
Best known for her iconic dives (seriously, there should be a highlight reel) 👀

Polly is the team meme in human form, always ready with a laugh, a one-liner, or a perfectly timed face to keep spirits high.
She’s got a few nicknames floating around, but we’ll keep it PG for this profile.

On the court she’s the one pulling the strings (with 9 fingers), keeping the offense running and making sure the hitters look good - all while adding her own flair of chaos and comedy 🎭

Meet Toby Gardener, our Panthers Men’s A setter/opposite, who comes with a very unique skill set.

Sure, he can run an offense, throw down a sneaky swing, and keep the team ticking… but his real claim to fame?
A six-figure student loan.
Toby plays like every set and swing could be the one that finally pays it off. 💸

And when he’s not busy chasing repayments, Toby’s future might just be in competitive hobby horse riding - because hey, at least those entry fees are cheaper than uni.
