Our Blanket Bank are looking for donations of single and queen size duvet inners! The start of winter is always a busy time for the Blanket Bank as many families struggle with rising costs of bedding and heating. Your support makes a big difference.

Donations can be dropped off at one of the Blanket Bank collection sites across Ōtautahi: https://www.blanketbank.nz/Collection-Sites/

We are looking for single and queen size duvet inners! Our stocks are currently very low for these items and demand is rising as the colder weather sets in.

Please consider gifting a donation to help us keep whānau in need warm this winter 💙

Mana Ake has marked eight years of supporting tamariki in Years 1–8 with their mental health and wellbeing.

Established in 2018 following the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes, Mana Ake began as part of a Government commitment to support tamariki and has since been rolled out across regions of Aotearoa. In Canterbury, CMM is one of 13 NGO providers delivering Mana Ake.

To mark the recent milestone, Mana Ake providers released a special publication sharing stories and feedback from tamariki, parents, whānau and schools who have been impacted by the programme.

One nine-year-old boy shared, “The anxiety is not me and I can choose not to listen to it. It does not control my brain.”

“We’re noticing better connection and less conflict,” shared one mother. “Both our boys are talking more with us now and are initiating more conversations too. I had no idea about emotions and the impact mine could have on the kids. I’ve learnt heaps and feel really excited about being a mum again.”

You can read the Mana Ake publication online at www.manaake.health.nz/about-us

CMM’s Family Support Fund has a long history of ensuring tamariki gain equal access to opportunities regardless of financial hardship.

The Family Support Fund can be accessed by CMM kaimahi on behalf of clients for a range of approved purposes, including the cost of school camps and holiday programmes, extracurricular activities like dance or swimming lessons, and everyday items like petrol and bills.

You can help provide this extra support for families by gifting a donation to the Family Support Fund. Visit www.mmsi.org.nz/Donate and select ‘Family Support Fund’ from the drop-down programmes menu.

A huge thank you to international organist Martin Setchell for his stunning virtuoso charity performance yesterday in support of CMM. It was a joy to see over 100 people join us for an afternoon of music spanning four centuries. We’re deeply grateful to Martin, to All Souls Church for generously providing the venue, and to our wonderful volunteers who made the event run so smoothly. The funds raised will help us to purchase specialised medical equipment for WesleyCare.

Today we celebrated the re-opening of McAra Courts. These newly renovated units were kindly gifted to CMM by the Port Hills Uniting Parish to provide affordable rental housing with a focus on older people.

“The beautiful homes that we have before us today have occurred thanks to the generosity and vision of the Port Hills Uniting Parish and its predecessors,” shared CMM Executive Director Jill Hawkey.

“At CMM we are seeing more and more older people in housing distress who desperately need an affordable home… this is why this generous gift from the Parish is so important.”
