All June, kaimahi are taking part in Sweat With Pride to connect, get active, and support LGBTQIA+ communities across Aotearoa 🌈💪 We’re so proud of everyone getting involved. Here’s what Gonda had to say:

“Movement is already a big part of my life. I run, ride, gym, swim, and hike, so joining Sweat With Pride was an easy yes. It supports my mental health, and I feel lucky to have that.

But not everyone feels safe or accepted to be themselves. Some of my friends in the Rainbow community have experienced that, and it’s not okay. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and celebrated for who they are.

If I can use something I already love to raise awareness, start conversations, and support services making a real difference, it feels very worth it. I’m also proud to be doing this alongside the Ka P**a Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa team, cheering each other on and backing our commitment to inclusion in a small, sweaty way.”

Ka pai, Gonda and team 👏

“You don’t need to be perfect to get started, fitness is for everybody.” 💪 Selwyn, one of our District Managers, keeps active through walking events, half marathons and even Zumba (often the only guy in the room!). For him, it’s not just about fitness, it’s about connection and supporting others.

He’s passionate about breaking the “she’ll be right” mindset. Looking after your physical health also supports your mental wellbeing, and checking in on your mates matters too.

He sees health as interconnected, mental, and physical wellbeing are not separate goals but natural byproducts of staying active and connected. Whether it’s walking alongside someone during an event, sharing a laugh in a Zumba class, or training for a race together, those moments create space for connection.

We are thrilled to share that Ka P**a Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa has received an Excellence Award in the Community and Affordable Housing Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards 2026. We were one of 16 finalists in the category.

The entry recognises a five Homestar 6 home development in Ōtāhuhu Auckland, designed for whānau living with a focus on warmth, wellbeing, and reduced environmental impact. The development was submitted by our external project management team at PJM Project Management.

A huge congratulations to our General Manager Housing Trust, Hope Simonsen and the wider housing team who attended the awards ceremony, alongside Housing Board Chair Jason Rogers and our Housing Programme Manager, Andrew Tills. This recognition is a testament to the great mahi being done by the team to create quality, sustainable homes for our community.

We’re excited for our wellbeing social enterprise Ignite wellbeing to be partnering with Farmlands and Rural Support Trust to help make mental health and wellbeing support more accessible for rural New Zealanders.

From today, if you live and work rurally, you can get access to a nationwide network of wellbeing support professionals available for free. Search the right person for you and connect with them when and how you want to, from your phone, ute, or kitchen table. No travel, no cost, no waiting rooms, at a time that works for you.

Because sometimes a yarn with the right person can make all the difference.

Together, Farmlands, Rural Support Trust, and Ignite are making it easier for rural people to access support, with one shared goal: rural communities that thrive.

My journey into mental health work started with my family. My brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and seeing what he went through, including being institutionalised, had a huge impact on me. It made me want to support others who live with mental illness and help them feel understood.

I began working in residential support at Ka P**a Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa and later moved fully into mental health services. I have now worked in this space for over 20 years. I also bring lived experience from my own recovery journey, which helps me support others with empathy and honesty.

My late husband worked as a mental health professional at Emerge Aotearoa too, when he became unwell with cancer, I took time off mahi to care for him until he passed away. During that time, Emerge Aotearoa were very supportive, it meant so much to me.

I love frontline work and being alongside people as they gain confidence, learn new skills, and move toward independence. I am proud of the work I do.

Every child deserves to be heard before they reach crisis. This Youth Week we are celebrating mahi that supports tamariki to build wellbeing early. 💚

Renee, a clinician with Kia Ora Ake, supports children to strengthen their wellbeing early and in ways that work for them. After years in crisis settings including sexual violence, family violence, mental health services, and schools, she was drawn to a more preventative approach.

Renee works alongside tamariki, whānau, and schools to ensure children feel heard, supported, and confident to ask for help. Her mahi focuses on building strong support systems through one-on-one work, whānau connection, and collaboration with teachers.

Using play based and holistic approaches, Renee adapts her practice to each child, helping create safe spaces where tamariki can thrive.

Early support matters. When we show up for tamariki and their whānau early, we help build stronger and healthier futures.

Last week we proudly blessed twelve new, single-level, one bed accessible homes in Kirikiriroa, set in an incredible location just across the road from the Waikato River.

This development is a turnkey purchase from Kelly Property Developments, replacing two older homes on the double site.

These homes are delivered as part of Ka P**a Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa Housing Trust’s partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, supporting more people with safe, accessible housing.

Ngā mihi nui to Matua Piripi (Ngāti Wairere) for blessing these new whare.
