Cricket Cancellation - Saturday 4th October

There is a good deal of rain scheduled to fall from late this afternoon, through Friday and then much heavier on Saturday.

The CMCA have been in communication with our experienced turf personnel today and their collective view is that covering the pitches for a long period of time in the very early stages of the season could prove to be a counterproductive decision as considerable sweating would occur and damage the already young grass on the wicket blocks .

While it is frustrating to have such heavy rain forecast for the start of the season, we believe, with the view of protecting the wickets blocks for the season ahead a paramount consideration, a decision to cancel all cricket on Saturday 04 October is a pragmatic one given the circumstances.
