‘Pete’s landing’ is a transitional parklet developed in the street fronting Peterborough Library. Peterborough Village locals have furnished the landing which was launched on Saturday afternoon, 30 November 2013 with great fanfare. The parklet signals a change to the less car-dominated - the more people and cycle-friendly - streetscapes sought in local redevelopment. Pete’s Landing is for the comm

unity to casually enjoy -kids in boat, stories conjured, bring coffee over, don a sunhat, sit ‘n read a mag from a locker - plus ‘Pete/Pita stories are anticipated. Centuries ago, the parklet site adjoined kahikatea wetland forest. Peterborough Village includes the site of the Tautahi kāinga on the banks of the Ōtākaro / Avon, and of the first pakeha settlement on the plains that established opposite. Pete’s Landing is inspired by this heritage and these river-associated and spring-fed lands, where tributaries flowed and groundwater remains close below.
