Hungarian Heritage Summer Camp for Adults
I received an email today from the director of the Debrecen Summer School. The Debrecen Summer School was established in 1927 to popularize Hungarian language (this was seven years after Trianon). I have attended their 4-week language course for seven years and found it wonderful).
Coming up to its centenary it is offering a Hungarian Heritage Summer Camp for Adults based in Debrecen and nearby Sáránd, 23-27 July this year. The timing is bad – but should you be in Europe it would be well worth considering.
It looks like you would need some Hungarian language to get the most out of it – but they say “English interpretation is available if necessary”.
(Note there are further details in both English and Hungarian.)
When: 23-27 July 2026
Where: Sáránd and Debrecen
Cost: €750 per person (including accommodation and travel between Sáránd and Debrecen)
Deadline for application: 12 June 2026
People over 16; minimum of 8 participants and a maximum of 12

Mikor: 2026. július 23 – 27.
Hol: Sáránd és Debrecen
Költsége: 750EUR/fő.
Jelentkezési határidő: 2026. június 12.
A tábor minimum 8 fő részvétele esetén indul, a maximális létszám 12. Az alsó korhatár 16 év.

15 March is remembered as the start of the 1848-49 Uprising. A key set of ideas is the “12 Points”. These were articulated by Lajos Kossuth to the Diet on 3 March. József Irinyi then created a condensed version of these on 12 March. Then on 15 March 1848, Sándor Petőfi publicized them.
