Touch Canterbury is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Patariki (Pat) Spellman.
Patariki gave so much to our sport through his work with Māori Touch NZ, Pacific Cup Touch and Touch New Zealand. His dedication to growing the game, supporting others and creating opportunities for our touch whānau has made a lasting difference across Aotearoa.
A familiar presence at Touch New Zealand events and tournaments, Patariki will be greatly missed by our Canterbury touch community and the many people who knew him. We remember with gratitude his contribution to the game, his friendship and the guidance he shared with others.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and aroha to Patariki’s whānau, friends and everyone mourning his loss. Our thoughts are with you all during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you, Patariki, for everything you gave to touch and its people.
Moe mai rā, Patariki.
Ka rere te korimako i te rangi pōkēao
Kua kāpō ōna karu i a Hinekohu
It is with immense sadness that we acknowledge the sudden passing of Pat Spellman. A treasured and much-loved member of the Touch community, who dedicated years towards the growth and success of Pacific Cup Touch, Māori Touch NZ and Touch New Zealand
A trusted friend and mentor, and a tireless advocate for the touch community – his mahi will leave an everlasting legacy in Aotearoa and across the Pacific. An irreplaceable figure who will be dearly missed.
Tangi arrangements are still to be finalised, and information will be shared in due course. The whānau request privacy at this time, and ask that any enquiries be directed to Harley Wall on 021 1187706 or via messenger.
