Gill nabbed a cuddle with a 6 week old pup who had just been micro chipped.

🐾 Some of you may remember a very special boy named Buddah, lovingly renamed Diesel by his adopters. 🐾

Diesel came to Dogwatch as an emergency intake after a kind member of the public heard he had been abandoned. Until we had space available, they made sure he was fed, watered, walked, and safe.

Every dog who comes through our doors has a different journey. Some stay with us for months or even years, while others find their people almost immediately.

For Diesel, that journey lasted just 15 days.

He wasn't even on the list of dogs his future family had come to meet.

As our team introduced Diesel and explained that he was still settling in and could be nervous around people, especially men, Diesel quietly walked over to his future adopter, sat down with his back to him, and did the biggest trust fall into him. In that moment, he placed all of his trust in a complete stranger.

That single moment became the beginning of something very special.

Today, the dog who was once abandoned is the centre of his family's world. He spends his days playing fetch, going on adventures, enjoying endless cuddles, and waiting by the window for his adopter to come home.

Diesel reminds us that rescue dogs are not broken. They are often some of the most loving, loyal, and deserving companions you could ever meet. Sometimes all they need is someone willing to see them.

A handsome gentleman who would quite happily be the only man, and the only dog, in your life. Nonu enjoys his people and would love a home where he can soak up all the attention. Older dog Savvy kid suitable!

Super smart and always thinking, Dave enjoys using his brain and learning new things. He would love a home where he can continue training and would prefer to be the only animal in the home. Older dog Savvy kid suitable!

Madam really couldn't care less about much, as long as belly rubs are involved. She's a lovely, easy going girl who is simply looking for comfort and company. Kid proof!

Marlow is here for a good time. He loves people, enjoys life, and would ideally love a home of his own, although he could potentially live with another dog if someone was willing to put the management in place. Older dog savvy kid suitable!

Older dogs have so much to offer. They skip the puppy stage, often settle into home life quickly, and make incredibly rewarding companions.

When Cocomutt Ice Cream 🐶🥥 drops off doggy ice cream, it's officially the best day ever! 🍦

A huge thank you to Cocomutt for spoiling our dogs and making shelter life a little sweeter, once again!

(This video was filmed a few weeks ago. Since then, Rufus, Nixon, Zeus and Rocky have all found their forever homes - hopefully with plenty of ice cream in their future. Well... maybe not Rocky. He's still convinced we were trying to poison him with his)

A fantastic effort from Saturday morning when a small group of trustees, adoption centre volunteers, and family members joined forces to plant an impressive 600 native trees and shrubs in our native walkway area. This collective effort is another step toward creating a unique on-lead bush walking space for the dogs while they are temporarily living at our adoption centre.

We’re deeply grateful to Trees For Canterbury, who generously donated all the plants. Their ongoing support, being just down the road from us, has made a huge difference in our previous plantings and continues to help bring our vision to life.

As the older plants begin to establish and grow, we’re delighted to see birdlife returning and making this area their home. The transformation is creating wonderful enrichment opportunities for our dogs, giving them a vibrant, natural environment to explore and enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and energy to this project—your commitment is helping our dogs thrive in a stimulating and nurturing setting.
