Free, inclusive and accessible community celebration of play, connection and creativity held at Ngā Hau e Whā National Marae - 250 Pages Rd.

Kanohi Kitea is a Circability initiative creating a space where Māori tākaro, whare tapere and circus arts meet and merge through the shared ingredients of kōrero, kai, movement, play and community.

Open to all ages, abilities and cultures, this is a chance to come along, have a play, learn something new, share kai and experience the joy of doing things together.

On Saturday, 12th September 2026, we hosted the Passport to Ōtautahi and Spring in Ōtautahi event. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our amazing partner organizations @, , .academy.trust, , and dedicated 30 volunteers. Around six hundred (600) people attended the event on the day visiting 33 stalls such as , and Whānau Āwhina Plunket.

The event was a huge success due to the hard work and support of all those involved. Attendees were also treated to some lucky draws from He Puna Taimoana New Brighton Hot Pools, Heart Foundation, Ninja Valley and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand who also contributed greatly to making the day memorable and engaging.

The thirty volunteers from all over Christchurch played a crucial role, assisting with various tasks and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their enthusiasm and commitment truly made a difference. We are grateful for the collaboration and teamwork that made the event possible. It was a fantastic day filled with cultural experiences, fun activities, and community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and partnered with us for the Passport to Otautahi event. Your contributions made a significant impact, and we look forward to more successful collaborations in the future.

MRCC is bringing our community together for a Working Bee to give our Centre a fresh-up! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to spend a morning working alongside others, helping to care for and maintain a shared community space. The Working Bee will be held on Friday, 2 October 2026, from 9am to 1pm.

Whether you enjoy gardening, cleaning, practical tasks, or simply lending a helping hand, there will be a range of activities to suit different skills, interests and abilities.

What will you be doing? Depending on your interests and abilities, tasks may involve, amongst others:
🌿 Grounds & Gardens: Planting & mulching, weeding garden beds, general garden tidying up
🏠 Building Exterior: Window cleaning, washing down exterior areas, gutter and debris removal
🧹 Centre Cleaning: Cleaning & tidying common, storage and kitchen areas, refreshing up signage
🔨 Repairs & Maintenance: Minor furniture repairs, maintenance and touch ups

We will provide the equipment needed for the working bee. You will need to wear suitable clothing and closed shoes.

Who are we looking for?
We welcome people of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels who are:
- Friendly and willing to work as part of a team
- Reliable and happy to lend a hand
- Comfortable undertaking practical tasks
- Interested in supporting a community facility
- Respectful of our diverse and multicultural community

Your contribution will help MRCC remain a welcoming, safe and well-maintained space for Christchurch's diverse communities.

How do we nurture a shared sense of belonging in a city that is both shaped by mana whenua and enriched by many cultures? How do we create stronger connections across difference?

To explore these questions, Christchurch City Council and Leadership Lab are hosting Multicultural Ōtautahi: A collective imagination hui on Saturday, 29 August 2026. The hui will bring together ethnic communities, tangata whenua, community leaders, organisations, and changemakers to reflect on the future of social cohesion in Aotearoa and our city. Participants will hear from economist and commentator Shamubeel Eaqub, who will share insights from the Helen Clark Foundation's Social Cohesion Report 2026.

Rather than focusing solely on challenges, the hui will invite participants into a process of collective imagination and sense-making. Through facilitated conversations, attendees will explore what we need to hold on to, what we may need to let go of, and what we are ready to create together as our communities continue to evolve.

The insights, questions, and ideas emerging from the hui will contribute to the Leaders for Equity Unconference 2026 on the 18 September, where participants will have an opportunity to further explore themes, connections, and practical actions for building a more connected, inclusive, and interwoven city (click in the tile to secure your ticket).
